I think it was Larry Flint, of Hustler fame, who said "we stay out of your church and you stay out of our bedrooms".

I can see it now.

There are wars in the middle east, American soldiers dying

gas is now $5 a gal due to an oil crisis

illegals are crossing the border in droves

drugs are invading elementary schools

global warming is causing the east and west coast to fall into the ocean

social security is now in the toilet and seniors have no food

half of congress is being indicted for insider trading

basically all heck is breaking loose

BUT WAIT !!!!! STOP EVERYTHING !!!!!!!!!

Call out the National Guard ! Protect your wives and daughters!!

Some dude up in Vermont is watching a man and woman have sex on his TV in the privacy of his home !!! OMG !!

As President, Santorium will have no choice but to close down the entire government so he can personally

handle this matter. ( like he did down in Florida some years ago and butted into the personal life of a woman on life support)

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Not to cut too fine a point, pills are only effective when taken (by women) as prescribed, which means they are totally unreliable.

Personally, I prefer the women in my life to use Depo-Provera, and I take them to their appointments religiously. When the current love of my life can no longer get the shot, I will get snipped. Of course, this is all provided for by my current HMO at no additional cost, so I have no dog in this fight, either way.

Depo is horrible for the body :( Calcium loss is a huge issue, which speeds up any osteoporosis. Not to mention, if she wishes to get pregnant it takes MONTHS for the depo to lose it's effect. Plenty of time for practice, yes, but the toll that level of hormones takes on the body is heavy. The pill on the other hand, well, I'm female and still childless. Still unreliable? :innocent:

Always amazes me how someone can defend the second amendment but not the first. Dfend the 10th amendment but not the 4th. You understand that if they do this they can ban YOUR religion right? Same protection, same amendment.

It is like a cafeteria, the effin' brussels sprouts are there even though I hate them, but I cannot take them away because I don't like them. I don't have to EAT them though.

You don't want porn, don't look at it

Garry you are doing that assumption thing again.

I questioned the idea that Porn is in the same category as First Amendment speech ... and you take off with your predictable response made anytime someone doesn't see the world as you wish it were. Did I even offer my opinion? You have this problem where I simply post a legal or historic fact and it gets you all bent out of shape. If you have a real counter set of facts present them, thats how we learn.

The Supreme court has spoken on this issue and "community standards" decide what is obscene and what is not, what shall be permitted and what won't.

New York v. Ferber

Read it , love it, live it and learn from it.

PS: Even the second Amendment does not apply to all firearms, nor all people nor all place and not at all times.

In your world of the future this would not be the case but for the hear and now....thats how it works.

Gee, after they went for our birth control I thought they next step was viagra.

I didn't realize they'd go straight for your beloved porn!

You want them to pay for your porn too? Please stop with the "they went for our birth control" NO ONE has suggested the government banning birth control pills. It gets old and looks stupid. You are a grown up, find a way to pay for your pills, pay for your porn and I will handle my viagra. OK?

- ANY action what so ever to limit the availability of Porn even to 5th graders could be construed as someone "after your porn".

* What does this have to do with the point you brought up yet failed to respond about- Someone coming after your Birth Control?

why can't YOU do something about it? I do not care about that. YES if the government does anything to infringe on the first amendment I object to it

You are no better than a college educated adult woman going before a legislative body and asking themto pay for her BC pills. You want the government to protect your children. DO IT YOURSELF.

The school did not teach my children about sex, I would not allow it. I TAUGHT THEM FIRST!

Use parental controls and put your 5th graders computer where you can see it. Teach them about sex when they are in 3rd grade

You are acting as helpless as a college educated dependent woman.

YOur comparison is so weak gary.

Listen to your self, we are talking about hard-core porn which is available even at the local library and you are comparing that to having a talk with the kids about the birds and the bees.

I'm still waiting on your more relevant commit rather than the off-topic.

Can communities regulate porn and adult establishments or not?

Don't talk about the world as you would have it... that place does not exist... and for good reason.

Congratulations on being childless if that is your plan. Worrying whether or not it can take months before having a normal cycle shouldn't be a concern after stopping Depo. If you have a sudden impulse to get pregnant, perhaps you might change you mind just as suddenly. So, waiting a few months before attempting to conceive maybe a more reasoned approach.

You have to weigh the pros and cons of any medication. The pill has it's own problems.

Taking Depo for up to five years with calcium supplementation doesn't seem to be a major concern. Taking Depo longer than that does seem to be a major concern.

Hard to link on an unofficial policy. But, free birth control is easy to find. Even for men, most bars in the area have free condoms available thanks to a concerted effort to limit the spread of STD's, something pills, or shots, can't do.

Here is the results from the first search I made:

http://www.yelp.com/search?find_desc=free+clinic+birth+control&find_loc=San+Francisco%2C+CA

Not nearly as effective against pregnancy, and they have no effect, in fact they're harmful, to women like me who have endometriosis and so on. And not all birth controls work well on everyone... some women only function well with certain pills that may or may not be available free. I need BC pills to function somewhat normally. Without them I would be unable to be a productive citizen of society and would be on some sort of welfare. At the very least they should be lower cost... I mean, who the hell, regardless of health reasons, wants poor people having six kids? If you make BC pills easily available, everyone wins; Democrats keep caring about women, and Republicans will have less welfare cases to complain about. It's a very small cost in order to keep everyone happy.

You want a cause, not see the world for what it is. Like I said, I have no dog in this fight. I need my statin drugs to not have a heart attack or stroke. Should those necessary drugs be provided free as well?

The poor and women's health are not the issues here. Keeping Obama in office is. One of these idiots could win. A post could beat Obama as bad as he has screwed the county. Either way, America loses because it worries about such trivial matters and not notice the storm looming on the horizon.

Who is "them?" I pay for my own healthcare, like almost all women. I expect it to meet my needs, without outsiders dictating what it can and not cover. You seem to be happy wasting your money and outsiders telling you what to do. I am not.

I'm going to hazard a guess that she knows all this already.

NO ONE has suggested that you not be allowed to choose your own healthcare insurance provider and select a policy (and pay for it) that meets your needs. That is not even an issue to anyone. Your arguments are disingenuous. No one has tried to stop you from using birth control, limit the availability of birth control to anyone OR state that you cannot decide your own insurance plan.

Seems it is OK with you for an outsider (the government) to mandate that ALL health insurance policies cover birth control pills, FOR birth control purposes (Even Catholic Georgetown's policy covers BC pills if they are prescribed for medical conditions, that is not an issue either)

So if the Obama can mandate what insurers MUST cover regarding reproductive issues by executive order, then a Republican President can mandate that ALL insurers must pay for abortion counseling for anyone seeking an abortion. Right?

You go along with this because THIS particular issue is to your benefit, you would argue against the same principal if it were not to your benefit. How unusual. That is also not an independent mindset, that is a "one-way, all for me because I cannot handle responsibility" mindset

My arguments are based on my actual experience as a woman, knowing first hand about issues of access to oral contraception - once again, get back to me when you've done that.

Georgetown also covers viagra which is why the so called "religious objections" is baloney - sex is only procreative for the Catholic Church, and most men who used viagra do not use it because they are trying to impregnate their wives.

And yes, Georgetown does cover contraception for medical reasons - that was covered in Sandra Fluke's testimony, but the Blunt amendment does NOT make that mandate.

Should we stop prosecuting Seventh Day Adventist parents for neglect because they don't get medical treatment for their sick children? We are violating their religious beliefs! That would be ridiculous.

And by the way, I don't have a strong opinion on the Obama mandate. I do have an opinion on the way certain individuals framed the debate and reacted to the issues involved. Keep it up, I think the results come election time might be amusing B-)
