My wife and I will be celebrating our one year anniversary on the 30th of March. The first few months were a little rough but the past 6 months have been great! Thanks for all of the help everyone provided on here. It keeps getting better every day. I never thought a city girl from Kiev would love fishing so much! She told me a week ago that the weather was getting nice, it's time to go fishing.

Hopefully, these excursions won't turn into a "crappie" experience, no man.

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I agree the first year was the most difficult. Lots to learn. Alla also enjoys fishing but she mostly lays around sunbathing or goes swimming while I fish.

Want to see a Ukrainian chick flip out? Catch a good sized fish, unhook it and throw it back in the lake.

They have a river in Kyiv :), not that anyone would recommend to eat a fish from there, but it's a river. :)

Congratulations on your first anniversary. The tough stuff is behind you now. It's not an easy ride from here, but life becomes a little more normal. Enjoy your life together!

congrats on the anniversary, my wife asked if I wanted to go fishing my next visit, she would cook anything I caught but I would have to clean it. I said," what? the fish I eat comes from the market, I never cleaned and gutted fish before." She still doesn't believe me

In her first days here I was fishing on our pier, Alla was sunbathing. I caught a Northern Pike perhaps 24" long. I do not care for pike ("shooka" in Russian) Alla was pleased... :D I unhooked the fish and tossed him back in. Alla flipped out! :o Ran to the end of the pier and looked in the water. "Where is the fish?" In the lake. "Where in the lake?" I don't know where, in the lake. "The fish goes away? The fish swims away?" Yes. "What is wrong with you? Are you crazy? You throw away free food? It is FREE FOOD! We have FREE FOOD in our front yard and you throw it away???!!! It was a HUGE fish, my mother would kill you, do you know what she would do to you? You have FREE FOOD in your hand, IN YOUR HAND and you throw it away! Bozhia Moy!":blush:

I was sworn to NEVER do that again, NEVER EVER!

, si man.

Mrs. T-B. is loudly asleep, but I shall ask her the Ecuadorian philosophy in regard to fishing. It may be "depending on where you throw in your line, it and part of your pole will be crunched in the jaws of a piranha, si man," but I'll confirm this.

Alla would bite the piranhas back! In Ukraine if you catch one of the three eyed fish you eat it. If you catch two of them, you eat one and take the other to the market to sell. Hoping to get enough money to eat something besides a three eyed fish.

Ukrainians will even eat CARP! :o

I have the perfect recipe for Carp.

1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees

2: Stuff the carp with pearl onions and 3 garlic cloves

3: Season with salt, pepper, and drizzle lemon juice on the skin

4: Place carp on a cedar plank and place plank on middle rack of oven.

5: Cook for 30 minutes or until flesh is flaky

6: Remove from oven and let set 10 minutes.

7: Throw carp away and eat the plank.

I have a similar recipe for duck!

When I was a kid we had a lot of ducks on our stock ponds and being the adamant hunter I was I just had to shoot them. No one in our house ate duck (my Dad called it "liver with wings") so the deal was I could go "duck hunting" but not until I had someone to eat the ducks. I found a few friend's families that would eat them and started shooting them. Then I had to pluck them and clean them. After a while I got tired of doing that and stopped shooting ducks. The ducks were happy about that.

Congratulations to you and your wife on your 1st anniversary! :)

It's so nice to see that so many people found each other. I wonder what would be the best online dating sites if a man was looking for a serious relationship domestically? Besides match.com, what else is out there that really works?

Thanks for your input! :)
