How long should I wait for the biometrics letter

Hey guys, it's been 6 weeks (since Feb 2nd when AOS paperwork was accepted by the USCIS). I had a typo in the address (zip code was off by 1 digit in the I 765 application, the other two apps, the I 485 and I 131 were correct).

Somehow all 3 intital NOA1 letters made it to the right address (even the one with the typo in the zip code, gotta give props to the post office) but unfortunately when they sent something else on Feb 23rd, it went back to USCIS as undelivered. I called the 800 number and have them update the typo, they gave me 2 service requests, 1 for fixing the address and the other for resending the letter (they couldn't tell me what it was)....I got a confirmation letter that the address has been changed in about 4 days, but I still haven't heard about the other piece of mail that got sent back. I called them again today and they told me that since it hasn't been 15 days (it'll be on the 17th of March) they couldn't transfer me to anyone who can look deeper into this. I have scheduled an info pass for next week just in case.

I'm very concerned as to what maybe happening with the biometrics, I've read here that If you are a NO SHOW at the local ASC's that perform biometrics, then they might consider your case abandoned which is obviously freaking me out. I asked this question to the lady I spoke with, she said that they are in touch with the USCIS main offices and won't just mark your case as abandoned as they might not even have the authority to do so, does anyone know if this is correct? It sound about right, why would they want to get into all of that, my understanding is their main purpose is to facilitate with the fingerprinting and pictures for the EAD and stuff. What do you guys think???

I would not worry about this, since you already called uscis, did the change of address etc. They know you did not abandon it and have a record of your calls etc. in the system. Its only if you do not contact them at all that they may say you abandoned it. Also, every time you call uscis and get a service ticket # (can't remembe the exact terminology they use) you will receive a notice referencing your call and the special # they gave you on the phone. Those are your proof that you are indeed following up and trying to get the situation resolved and your appointment done.

As i said in your other post if you do not here anything soon and and infopass appointment does not get you the letter get in touch with your congressman asap. Again, i would not worry about this.

Yeah, I agree...I think I just gotta wait it out, but as I said I'm desperate to get that EAD! Speaking of EAD and of course the biometrics which kicks off the EAD processing as they need your fingerprints and picture for the card, should I call them again and get a case request created for not having recieved biometrics appt letter. I mean, I don't even know if that letter that got sent back to the USCIS by the post office was actually the biometrics request letter, it could have been something else, right now the reqeust that was created through the phone Customer service rep. was to re-send whatever couldn't be delivered by the post office coz of the address typo!

I mean it could be one of those situations where it's just a delay on their part and the letter hasn't even been sent out yet?

In that case, I'm eligible to hear more as to why there's a delay speacially becuase it's been 43 days since the case was filed and they normally tell you that they try to send out the biometrics letter within 30 days? What do you guys think?

Thanks,

Dave

Did they not already give you various service request numbers for any of your calls? when i called about not receivng my letter, they did one for me, then when i called about the ead and ap being late i got additional service request numbers for those two as well. they have some stupid rule where your only allowed one service request a month for one case/file number. Forget about wondering whether it was the bio letter or not. theres nothing you can do about that missing piece of mail. so dont stress over it. And yes it took me like 3 reps and two letters from them before i found out they just never got around to processing my file and inputting me into the queue system for the bio appointment. When something is sent back to uscis it can take them a month to open it as well.. I still think you should do the infopass appointment asap. they tende to listen more when you go in person, rather than give you the textbook speach like they do on the phone. also once you get the bio letter most times you can go in early to the bio appt. most people have done that rather than wait the month or two.

so first things first..get the infopass done then if you dont hear anything in two weeks contact your congressman.

Oh bummer, I just wrote a long message and as I was supposed to post it, my computer crashed :(

Anyway, thanks for the quick response...I appreciate it! As I mentioned, I did get 2 service request numbers (1 for the typo and the other one for re-sending that undelivered piece of mail). What I forgot to do was is what you've suggested above...instead of being hung up on that missing piece of mail (which we don't even know if it's the biometrics appt letter, or something else)...instead I should just ask them to open a new service request for the biometrics apppointment letter? I'm just not sure since I cancelled the INFOPASS appt. i had today, and now have another one on Monday, should I just call them and have them create a new service request over the phone, or should I just wait until Monday and ask the person at infopass to create a new service request or look into it?

From your experience with infopass, were they able to give out more information that their counterparts over the phone do you think?

I think calling tomorrow and getting a service request created might actually save me a couple of days (as we have to wait for 15 days before any followups with tier 2 folks)? I'm trying to relax, but this is very uncomfortable feeling! I'm sure you understand where I'm coming from especially after what they did to your case!

When you called customer service today did you tell them that its been 43 days since you file ur case but have not receive the bio letter? You can ask them if the bio letter was generated and mailed out. Since its been over 30 days they should be able to tell you if it has or hasn't. When I called USCIS they were able to tell me when it was mail and when my appointment is. I'm not sure what the infopass will accomplish because all the questions you have can be answered by calling customer service and requesting to speak to a tier 2 rep. My file my case on January 25, 2012 and got my bio letter about 3wks later so its unusual if you haven't received urs after 43 days unless there is a backlog in processing EAD cases at ur service center.

Yes I did tell them, and of course she knew when she asked me when was the case filed, so yes but she obviously didn't suggest that they can transfer me to a tier 2 representative who can look into it. That's the first thing I'm going to try out tomorrow morning.

As far as the delay, remember I mentioned I had a letter that went back to USCIS because of the address issue, that letter according to the date online was exactly after 3 weeks from the initial acceptance date so yeah it was just my bad luck, lets see what happens, I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

they wont ever recommend or suggest you talk to a tier 2 or an IO, YOU have to specifically ask that. these are robots bascially who read a script on the phone and refuse to deviate from it.

Just wait til Monday and go in person youll get better results.
