joint filers for joint sponsors

My stepdad is the primary filer for my parents IRS documents. So the tax return transcripts have both their names. However, the tax transcripts separate their income. I am also sending a recent paystub for my mother who is our joint sponsor that will give the YTD for 2011 only. Do I need to send other paystubs for her since i'm submitting 2010, 2009 and 2008? Also, since they file jointly, does that mean my stepfather has to submit an I-864A? She makes more than enough to cover my husband. Thanks.

This was just my own experience: my joint sponsor was my dad, who files taxes jointly with my mom. He sent in W2 and 1044s from 2010 and our AOS package was accepted without problems. My mom did not fill out a I-864a. As long as the tax transcripts show the joint sponsor's income separately you should be fine.

actually just checked, their income isn't separated, so should a pay stub from December 2010 suffice for my mother to prove her annual income? I'm sending one for 2011 as well to show what she makes now and to prove her annual salary

Thanks, it says under tax and credits, total income per computer? and then total income?? this is so confusing :-(

Don't send a pay stub.

Send a copy of your mother's W2 for any years you are submitting tax transcripts.

thanks so much, the pay stub is for this year, which they say can help, i am sending letters from my employers for current income, and her pay stub. the problem is, her w2's don't list net income, only wages, tips etc. is this the number i put down for her total income since the tax return transcript shows a joint amount?

Box 1 on a W2 listing "Wages, tips, and other compensation" is the net income a person was paid for a job. It will show the full paid salary a person received during a year. Sending the W2 will prove what portion of the tax return transcript income came from your mother.

If your mother also has other income (like from interest) that she would include in the I-864, then proof of that would also need to be included.
