My wife and I are just starting out, and so she's under the poverty line. My family friend is going to be our joint-sponsor so everything is good, but I have a question regarding I-864.

When my wife fills out the I-864 form, it says that if one does not meet the poverty line, she must fill in part 7 in which she must list her assets (savings, property, etc). The small print says that her assets must be 3 times the gap between her income in the poverty line, which hers will not.

Is part 7 of I-864 optional if she's under the poverty line but we have a joint sponsor whose income will over us?

thanks.

Assets and savings are not used unless you are trying to qualify with them for sponsoring. If the joint sponsor makes 125% the poverty guidelines on income alone there is no need for assets of any kind or bank information of any kind to be listed.

Your I-129f was approved in 5 days from your NOA1 date.

Your interview took 67 days from your I-129F NOA1 date.

AOS was approved in 2 months and 8 days without interview.

no need to fill it out. when your primary sponsor doesnt meet the 125% threeshold they can try to compensate for the difference with assets, however the assets must equate 3 times the difference in income.

ex. if the threshold is $10,000 and your primary sponsor only makes $7,000, her assets must be $9,000 to qualify. however since you are using a joint sponsor, as long as they make it over the threshold you will have no issues. and no need to fill out part 7 on any application.

i hope this helps
