Ok folks. I hope this is the right section of the forum for this.

I wanted to post a warning to people like me, so they don't get suckered like I did.

I was denied entry at the border after being in the USA with my man for almost 4 years. Needless to say , we started freaking out. I wanted to get home (to usa) asap, obviously. We had no idea how to get this done so I did some research and found out I needed to apply for a K1 fiancé visa. Ok cool. Easy enough. We decided since we knew nothing about visas to hire some help. Big mistake! Google suggested to us a website called EzVisa. It looked like a dream come true, with guarantees of being in the USA in only 6 months with no hassle. Wow I never thought it would be so easy! Guess what, it wasn't.

So we hire the EzVisa company, which is in fact only one guy. His name is Lester. He began his company after going through a K visa process himself with his foreign wife. I thought that was good, he'd be understanding of our situation. He wasn't.

He has us fill out basic forms which he then used to fill out the visa forms. I thought everything was fine until I noticed he has made mistakes on our forms. Basically there was information that I have no idea where he got. Stuff that was totally false. Good thing I noticed before they were sent away. When I mentioned this to him, he had no apologies for his mistake.

He told my fiancé that I could be back in the USA in as little as 6 months. It's been 14 and I'm still in Canada. Once again he's never said anything about it taking to much longer. Basically, he lied to us about the 6 months. As you all know it takes much longer.

A number of times when emailing or calling him his reply was "I don't know who you are". I understand someone has a lot of clients and many people have similar names. I cannot understand having to explain in detail who I am every single time I talk to him though. Seems like he should be able to remember from one day to the very next who I am and what we were discussing. Maybe he needs to hire a secretary. Anyways.

As far as being told I could return in as little as 6 months, well that was a total joke. It's now been 14. My interview is next week. In total this will have taken about 15 months from when I arrived in Canada. About 13 since filing my initial paperwork.

There was a postal strike here in Canada while I was waiting for my packet from the Montreal Consulate telling me what to do next. That packet never showed up. I emailed EzVisa to ask what to do, he told me go on the consulate website and book your interview, you'll be fine. This sounded suspicious to me, I was right. I contacted the consulate through email, they forwarded the packet to me which stated that I DO NOT book an interview at this time, I was to send in some paperwork first. I didn't have an MTL number at the point so I wouldn't have even been able to book an interview on the website.

I finally got my packet 3 taken care of and booked my interview. Got my medical exam booked and it is now done. I thought ok thank god I'm finally almost done with this. Then I found out about being possibly banned from entry to the USA due to my travel history. I started to freak the #### out! I emailed the EzVisa guy with my concerns. I know for a fact that my fiancé explained my situation to him when we hired him. In his reply to my email he claims to have known nothing about my situation. He also berated me like a child for believing something I read online and asked rudely if "the person who told you this has been doing this type of work for 20 years, like I have". He basically said I was an idiot for being worried about stuff and that I need to stop. Gee I thought being worried about the future of my life and family was normal, guess not! All I can do is wonder how someone who's been paid, and paid well, to answer my questions is now being so rude when I ask one. He claims to have no knowledge of people being denied due to travel history or being in the USA when they shouldn't have. I know for a fact that this does happen. There's even a waiver you have to fill out to get the problem solved.

Anyways, my point is this: Don't use the company EzVisa unless you want to add more stress to an already stressful time in your life. If you need help filling out paperwork, use this website instead. Or email your consulate directly. Hiring an immigration consultant is a waste of time and money. I honestly feel like things would have gone smoother and in a more timely manner if I'd done them myself.

Wow sorry you didn't hear about Visa Journey sooner as it's pretty simple to do all the forms and no lawyer is really necessary. Hope your interview goes smoothly.

Thanks ;) Now that it's all over, it's kind of whatever, but I hope other people won't have to go through that kind of headache!

I actually heard about VJ through a guy at my medical exam! I'm so glad he told me! And if he's reading this : Thanks dude! If you were at the medical in Toronto on March 12, I'm sure you know who you are! I didn't catch your name but I owe ya one! Good luck on your interview and have fun in Virginia once ya do get there!

I hired immigration attorney for our CR1/IR1 visa journey, and she was extremely helpful for our case, really did excellent job at every step. She was reasonable and paid $900 USD for her job. It is important that you hire the right person.

You know, K-1 visa takes 6-7 months, and I dont know how and why it took 14 months for your case. Seems strange. May be, you got RFE or dont know how this EZVISA guys worked on your case.

How can a K1 possibly take 15 months? :o

I see in your timeline that you got your NOA2 last August, what happened since then?

Why exactly were you denied at the border? Are you subject to a bar? You said you stayed in the US for 4 years, how did you do that? Did you just enter as a visitor and stay?

This guy is really wrong, your history of unlawful presence is bound to cause some issues at the interview. You'd better be prepared for it.

i wasn't there illegally, i was going back and forth. i just did it a lot. it turns out it likely will not be a problem.

the reason it has taken to long is because i never got the first instruction packet from the consulate. I assumed that it was just taking a long time since the guy who was supposed to be helping never said anything to me about it. Turns out it had supposedly been sent out in Sept. I stupidly waited until December to inquire about this. I just kind of thought, hey I paid this guy a lot of money to help me, he said he'd be there every step of the way so I guess it's normal for it to take this long. Since then I have been doing everything I can to make sure things are getting done in a timely matter.

No K1 visas don't ALWAYS take 6-7 months. Presently NOA1-NOA2 is taking 5 months. Then how long the next part takes depends on your country. UK for instance has a bit of a backlog for interviews (or used to...). In Canada there's 2 embassies and apparently one of them takes a LOT longer than the other. In Australia it can take 2 months from NOA2 to visa in hand, sometimes shorter, sometimes longer. 15 is a bit long but the 6 months for Canada at the moment was not right.

A gentle correction to the good V-Bone's message:

In Canada there's 2 embassies
Technically, there's only one U.S. embassy per country (in the capital city). In Canada, there are two consulates (there can be as many consulates as the U.S. decides to establish and the host country permits).

The "embassy" may or may not process immigrant visas.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

yes there are two embassies that handle K1 interviews. There is one in Vancouver I think and the other is in Montreal. I got stuck with Montreal which is apparently the slower of the two (makes sense since it's closer to most of the population of Canada than the other location). Either way, the time delay was in part him, in part me and in part the consulate.

I just wanted to let people know about my experience with a company that targets people just like the ones on this site, so that hopefully they can make the best choice when it comes to hiring someone to help them.

Thanks for everyone's sympathy! In one week from now I will already be on the train home from Montreal, and hopefully in two weeks from today I will be packing my bags and heading to the airport!
