Hi all!

My husband and I want to take a trip in late July/early August, but we just realized that we could have to do his interview around that time!! Do you get a choice of interview dates, or do they just tell you "Come on August 1"? And if it's the latter, can you call and say that you can't make that day because you will be out of town?

Thank you!! :) Have a great weekend.

You get what Montreal gives you... You have no choice in the matter...

I would strongly suggest that whatever you had scheduled, that you reschedule it. They are not very good with rescheduling anything...

Oh my gosh really?? I was really scared of that - the thing is this trip would be our honeymoon and we're having professional pictures and everything done down there :o . We would be totally screwed if they wouldn't reschedule.

Oy. This process has been one of the most painful and stressful of my life :(.

I just realized too, what would they do if I were away something more serious than a vacation? The week before I'm in Albany writing my bar exam! I know I'm not required to be there technically but it could just as easily be my husband who had to write an exam or do something work-related. Boooo immigration.

Well, the "good" news is that looking at your timeline I see you don't even have your NOA2 yet...after you recieve that you'll be at the NVC stage a few months. That means that it's pretty unlikely that you'll have an interview before the fall.

They seem to be speeding up somewhat with scheduling, but if you haven't even got the NOA2 yet, chances are good your interview will not be in July or August. :(

Thanks for the input! I appreciate that very much. From the research I've done around here I think the NOA2 will probably get to us around April. It would be the absolute worst of bad luck if the interview fell in that ONE week we're away! But you never know! I will just have to throw myself on the mercy of the embassy and beg them to reschedule. :crying:

NVC sets the interview schedule for cr-1/ir-1 in Mtl. Probably easier to push the interview back, then vice versa. Why not email mtl and ask if they can do it, and how to go about accomplishing it, if it is possible. best of luck

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

You can request certain dates of Montreal. One girl on herer last year requested a Friday interview date. We actually has to postpone our date and requested a reschedule. We did not ask for a specific date, but were given the next available about a month later.

If you have a specific request, why not just ask, it worked in our cases.

Edited to add: we had absolutely no problems by doing this either. I also just noticed it may be because you could be away. We had a similar problem. Montreal had no problems in rescheduling (we called them after we received the interview notice)

Fantastic! Thanks for letting me know that! May I ask how you requested this date? Is there a particular form?

After we received the notice of the scheduled date - we cvalled them and stated Abdel would be out of Canada at that time. They assured us no problem. Our original interview date was 11/3/04 and they sent us a new one for 11/30/04.

Wanted to add I don't know if the process would be different betweem CR1 and K1 as we went K1 route.

k1 and cr-1 is different. for the k1 Mtl sets the date, and for cr-1 NVC assigns the date. Even though MTl wont be assigning you the date, I would email and ask them what are your options.

Thanks :). Does anyone happen to know Montreal's email address, please? From the searches I've done I am only coming up with phone numbers dealing with tax advice.
