When can I apply?

Hi guys!

I'm a little confused whether I am elligible yet or not to apply for naturalization.

I had Conditional Resident Status from 2009-2011 then applied for Removal of Conditions and obtained the new Legal Permanent Resident Card about a year ago.

I have fulfilled the 3 years of continual residence requirement but two of the 3 years have been under conditional LPR. Do I have to wait another 2 years or can I apply now?

I would like to do it now since we are expecting our first baby ... plus my old Romanian passport is about to expire and the Romanian embassy has some ridiculous requirements for obtaining a new Romanian passport under my married name.

I figured if I am elligible might as well apply for citizenship and obtain a US passport. It honesly seems much easier!

Thanks for your replies

You are eligible to apply for citizenship if you are married to same spouse for 3 years ( from the date of your POE ). Based on your situation, you can go ahead and apply for US citizenship, after all approval/oath ceremony, you can apply for US passport. :)

If you were on the conditional resident status for the first 2 years, YES you are eligible to apply for your citizenship. However, please check this link http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.eb1d4c2a3e5b9ac89243c6a7543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=a0ffa3ac86aa3210VgnVCM100000b92ca60aRCRD&vgnextchannel=a0ffa3ac86aa3210VgnVCM100000b92ca60aRCRD and I am sure this will clear any doubt you may have.

Seriously????

I am ready to smack myself! I was about to schedule 2 trips to DC and prepare tons of paper work to obtain a new Romanian passport!

I just looked over the documentation for submitting the naturalization form and it's soooo much easier!

Heck I might even be able to vote in November! :)

Thanks a lot!
