Fifth Third (5/3) bank allowed with out SSN but they had to lookup the correct form. I would guess most banks could but dont wnat to bother with the special paper work. You sould be able to have a SSN in hand in less then a month after ariving.

I bank with Chase and used their International Services section to add my fiance as a joint account holder to my checking and savings account. He has never been to the US and does not have a SSN. They had me fax a letter saying I wanted to add him and gave them his contact details. They called and spoke with him over the phone briefly to confirm. They speak multiple languages (if needed) and can call when convenient for the person. After that, I made an appointment and took a copy of his passport with me. He had to sign a few papers, which I sent to him in the mail. It took a few weeks for the whole process, but it was very easy and they have a direct line to call on and speak to a human right away instead of their telephone banking service.

My husband and I opened a joint account at Wells Fargo. It was easy - they took a copy of my passport and my driver's license. And I just recently had my last name changed because we were married and that was easy too.

I set up to transfer funds through Custom House (now Western Union)and had no trouble at all with that either.

I would greatly recommend Wells Fargo.

Thank you again. As I said previously, I don't have many choices in Maine. So I will try my best. ;)

Wells Fargo!

They were giving home loans to illegals a few years back.
