My fiance already went to the first (out of 2) interview, to take all the paper work. The second interview is scheduled for the 29th of this month, and we all have to be present (parents + child). I was just wondering if anyone has gone through this process, so I could know what to expect in this interview, in regards to questions/remarks from the CO?

Thank you! And yeah, it consist of 2 interviews, one where you have to drop the first batch of documents they ask for (only one parent needs to be present). At the second interview you have to take all the rest of the documents/evidence they ask for (Also the whole family has to be present) It is a very fast process. In 2 months the whole process can be completed.

The first interview you setup yourself on their website. The second interview they assign to you. They give you a piece of paper detailing everything that is required for the second interview. I have everything, and i'm all set, but I would love to hear some input from people who have gone through it already, to be better prepared for their questions/etc...

Congrats on the making this move. It is definitely the best move for sure. As far as the second interview, mine was pretty simple. My name was on the original BC and we had lots of pictures to prove that I actually have a relationship with my son. Make sure you have lots of pictures because it really helps. When you get inside the embassy you wait until your appointment time is called (which is way after the actual time they gave you). Then once they call your time you and everyone else with the same time forms a line to go to the first window and give all of your documents. Once all of that is fine then you send you into a room with the other people who filed for their CRBA's with their kids who have the same appointment time as you do. There are toys for the kids to play with and two tv(s) for the adults to watch. The wait is a little long once you get inside the room and if you child starts to cry or make a lot of noise they make you take them outside until they quiet down. When they are ready for you, they call you up to a window and swear you in. Then the fun begins. In my case the CO only asked a few questions and he was extremely nice (it was like we had a casual conversation). The whole interview lasted only a few minutes. He asked these questions:

How did my fiance and meet?

Why did we choose to have our son in the DR? (we met in a different country, but my fiance is from DR. She wanted to have her first child in her country.)

Was I there for when he was born? (I wasn't because of work, but I came three days after and had pictures to prove it)

Also in my case I had someone fill out the original paperwork for me and they messed up with about five years of living in the US (they put that I was out of the US for 5 years). I was really pissed (more at myself) because I had to explain that I didn't fill out the form and that I was in the US the whole time. BUT again the guy was really nice and he was cool the whole time, so he only asked me for some more proof (other than my word) that I was in the US during that time. Once I could provide that information to him we would be approved. I had to send my fiance my transcripts from high school and once she took it back to him we were approved. I was so happy because we went through a lot because just to figure out how to get it done. It took about a month to get my son's passport and everything after it was approved. I hope that this helps you and if you have any questions just let me know. GOOD LUCK!

Wow! This really does give me input! THANK YOU!!!! My child was born out of wedlock, I've been with my fiancee for 7 years now, our child is going to be 2 years old in may. I have a lot of pictures of the different times I have been in DR with my daughter, as well as pictures that prove the relationship is real between us (Parents). I'm taking about 188 pictures. I also had some trouble with the exact dates I have been in the US, I filled it wrong, but I did it right this time (hopefully). The only thing I'm right now is the transcripts from school, I'm not sure if I should go to my highschool to get one, or go to college to get one. Probably highschool because the date is older, and will provide as evidence of my presence in US... but I only have a week to get the transcript (which ever I get) before my trip is due. Damn it! I thought I had everything... (Also, the highschool that I went to here in NYC was closed down, so how would I go about getting a transcript from there?

What's up Speeds,

I am glad that I could help you out. My son was born out of wedlock as well and I have only been with my fiance for 4 years. The best pictures are the ones with all three of you together so make sure you focus more on those. I really didn't have a lot of pictures, but one IMPORTANT thing that I forgot to mention is that when they call you in they send in the child with the US parent (the one who filed) first and you sit there with your child for quite some time. I guess they do that to watch your relationship with your child without the other around to see if it the child is comfortable with you or not. I am not totally sure if this was their intent but I know that they made one parent from each of the families that were there stay outside while the others went in to the interview area with the child. This is the only logical explanation that I could come with for them doing that. As for the transcripts, you would need your high school transcripts because they want you to prove that you were living in the US for 5 consecutive years prior to the age of 14. What the man told was if I couldn't get my transcripts then I would to find some way to prove that I was in the US for those 5 consecutive year before the age of 14. He also said to bring as much evidence of that as you can because that and the relationship between your daughter and her mother are the MOST IMPORTANT things.

I also got this information for you that might help you find out about your high school transcript

Contact the school district office if your school has closed since you attended it. The office should be able to direct you to where the records are currently located. To find your school district office, call 3-1-1 if you live in New York City, or 718-935-2000 if you are not in the immediate NYC area.

I hope it all helps you bro. Keep me posted...

I guess I'm fudged :( ... I've been living in the US since I was 6. I attended many different schools. I'm sure I can get my high school transcript, but probably NOT before the 27 of this month. And my HS transcript wont show proof of me living in the US 5 years prior of age 14. Neither will my college transcript... So what would I use? I feel hopeless now! I don't understand why they can't just accept the passport stamps of entry/exit as stated in their checklist!

Thank you for this very important information bro! Don't stress too much... I just finished reading some more on the US embassy's website in DR and it doesn't say before the age of 14 it just says prior to your child being born. They also accept the entry/exit stamps in your passport, tax returns, along with the transcripts. You should be fine but you just have to get the proof together before you go so I suggest you start calling as soon as tomorrow. GOOD LUCK!
