Did u guys booked the wedding venue/reception before or after the visa gets approved??

I was wondering if I booked our wedding venue and reception before the visa gets approved so that we could use that for part of evidence (I guess..lol)

How about u guys what’s your wedding plan? (L)

The longer it takes to happen the more you'll appreciate it when it does!

It's strongly recommended that you DO NOT book anything for the wedding until you have the visa in your hands; unless it's refundable. While are all being positive, it's better to be safe than sorry.

Other, more experienced, VJers will tell you specifics; but it's my understanding that ... having the wedding planned... is not accepted as primary evidence of ongoing relationship (someone please correct me if I'm wrong).

The same thing applies for the plane ticket... it's best not to get one until you get your passport back from the Embassy with the visa stamped (and you've checked that the information on it is correct too)<br class="Apple-interchange-newline">

I don't plan on doing anything big, because that just ain't me. I'm one of those that rathers use the money to go to Bora Bora, instead of using it for a reception.... BUT that's how we both are laughing.gif

All of this is right on the money.

No one in embassy or USCIS really cares what type of wedding you do. You can do a drive thru in Vegas, and it will be fine.

I agree with other members stated, don't plan anything until the visa is in hand.

As far as my plans, we are just going to the court. But we will do a religious ceremony back in the fiancee country after she will get AP or AOS.

Good luck!!!

I have my dress, and I've already talked to the minister (at the church where the wedding will be held) about our plans, put bridesmaids/guests on alert, and begun thinking about other arrangements, but I won't book anything until he gets here. I'll put my dress receipt and probably a letter from the minister in Aaron's folder to bring to the interview: can't hurt!

I'm making plan A, Plan B, etc. We have an idea of what we'd like to do and how we'd like to do it but we're not making any concrete plans till we have the visa. I just booked a cake tasting for his trip in a few weeks and explained to them that we are unable to order the cake now, but will once we have the dates. I have contacted a few venue sites and they are willing to work with me on short notice if they have availability. One of the sites is an inn so they can block rooms too. We have bridal party waiting for the word that it's a go, and they know if all the women don't match perfectly, it's fine with us. Alan's supposedly ordering a kilt for him, but he hasn't yet so we'll see how that goes. I'm holding off a bit on a dress because I'm on a pretty strict diet and determined to take off some weight quick. I'll start looking soon though. If we get the visa and just don't have time to plan what we want right away, we'll do a small civil ceremony officiated by my neighbor and then plan a big religious ceremony with reception a few months later.

In everyone's life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit.

Did u guys booked the wedding venue/reception before or after the visa gets approved??

I was wondering if I booked our wedding venue and reception before the visa gets approved so that we could use that for part of evidence (I guess..lol)

How about u guys what's your wedding plan? (L)

I wouldn't advise doing anything with a solid date.

That being stated...I didn't even follow my own advice! Kinda. lol

I have planned a small destination type wedding. Everyone I booked with was aware of this and accommodated for it. We're doing a beach wedding, so all I needed was the Officiant, who has been awesome and gave us a flexible date (no extra money involved if the date needed to be changed). The place we're having dinner at had the same policy (with just a small $50 fee if we changed the date for the dinner).

My family isn't too far...so it hasn't been a big deal. Not many are coming, and being such...we're having a get together for those who can't travel on such short notice.

.... ....

If you're looking at a big wedding that requires permits, a set date, venue renting, decorations, etc etc etc. I would not do it. Mine is a simple ceremony (no wedding party involved) and a simple dinner (no entertainment etc.). We could've done the court wedding, but a lot of my family expressed interest in wanting to be there. ... and courts weddings just don't allow that many witnesses. lol.

... ....

On a side note, the embassy that my fiance interviewed through specifically asked for proof of engagement. I didn't want an engagement ring. Luckily, we had already bought our wedding bands. But, the only other proof of engagement would in fact be all the receipts that will be going to our ceremony. So what would be proof of engagement if someone didn't have engagement rings? (This was in addition to our evidence of communication since the petition).

All our tentative plans have been pushed off the table and we are now on to our back-up plans. We will leave the airport and go straight for a meal and then to get the license. A nice chapel overlooking a hillside in Austin with a local pastor and everyone who wants to joins us can drive the 3 hours there. I will contact a few pastors in the next week to see who we can book. We aren't big drinkers so we plan to do something silly in our wedding clothes like bowling or puttputt or whatever we decide. This is a very important occasion and I refuse to belittle is value by giving it less celebration than a traffic ticket or a typical holiday.

While we can't celebrate will all our family and friends as I have dreamed, we can celebrate and we certainly will. It will just be on a budget with everything being rushed because my fiance has to return to his home country for school in the fall.

I have begun planning our wedding and honeymoon. I even put down deposits for the ceremony/recption site however I made sure that I could change the date without penalty we need to. I would not suggest putting down depoits or booking anything that can't be refunded and/or changed. In regards to guest. I've told people who have asked about our wedding date that they we were tentatively scheduling it for December but more information will be given later. I don't plan on sending out any invitations until we actually have the visa in hand.

Good luck!

wow that's nice. goodluck on your journey.. always stay inlove (L)

Thank you! You too!

While we are not going to do anything big.... I've been looking at some gorgeous dresses for the courthouse LOL Once I go home star_smile.gif with mah baby... we'll decide if we want to marry in his home town or where we'll live. I think it'll be better, for my own sake, to plan that when I get there instead of trying to get him (*sigh* men) to plan this through Skype...I'm so anxious about my upcoming interview, I don't think adding more stress to my life will help rofl.gif

I started planning once I got the NOA2.. I knew it was risky considering I didn't have my medical and interview yet but the hotel did say that we could rebook but not refund.. I was sure of the venue so I just booked it to the date we were hoping for and if it didn't work out then I'd push it back, but I'm glad it worked out! We also already booked the church and started all the paperwork for the catholic wedding. Somehow it all just fell into place. I wouldn't put money on things that can't be refunded though. Everything else we kind of just waited until I got my visa.

My Journey:

We met through a study-abroad program in Shanghai, China in August of 2009

We got engaged March of 2010

I received my K1 VISA in 6 months (June-December 2010)

We were married 04/02/2011
I received my conditional 2-year greencard (AOS) in 2.5 months with no interview (April-June 2011)

Our son was born 02/03/2013

I received my masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology 04/17/2013

I received my 10-year greencard (ROC) in 3 months with no interview (March-June 2013)

My husband returned from deployment 06/20/2013

My naturalization journey took 4 months (April-August 2014)

I became a US citizen on 08/01/2014

Received passport in 3 weeks (regular processing)

Thank you, VJ! smile.png
