most driving schools on the PI will help her get a license but she will not know how to drive..........

i will explain, she will have ZERO time behind the wheel & still not know how to drive a car.

...............OMITTED..................

the only question i have is can she stay in the Philippines till you return from duty

or can she stay with her inlaws? most Pinays are used to always being around other people

i'm talking 24/7, if she is all alone for a year that mite become a huge problem

good luck

The state I am currently stationed in is Oklahoma. I've looked at the DMV website & license laws for Oklahoma and can't seem to find much about needing a SSN but I would need to teach her to drive before she takes the test at least a good number of times so she's comfortable. To make this any more complicated, my car is a stick shift MANUAL transmission  I'm going to do my best to give her literally a "crash course" on driving in a quick amount of time before I have to leave, it just worries me.

Hopefully she will have some friends/neighbors to rely on here while I'm gone, however, our deployments are usually only 3-6 Months (USAF Aircrew) so it hopefully won't be extremely hard on her, as we've made it through being apart for longer than that before.

To get a drivers license in Oklahoma she will need a SSN and an EAD or a green card (to prove residency).

But it is legal for her to drive with a foreign license until then, there is no time limit.

1. have her move in with your parents or

2. get a moped, around 40 to 49.5 CC, no license required to drive it or

3. set up a contract with a driver to get her around during the months you'll be gone.

The bike is the safest bet. We no prior experience behind the wheel, her learning to drive will take a long time and a lot of patience. Meanwhile, pedaling a bike around town will give her practical experience, both to the mechanics of driving, and the rules of the road. One she gets her license, and has her quota of accidents that new drivers seem to experience, she may be back to pedaling around town soon enough.

pay a local driving school to teach her 1 on 1

you can pay a little extra & they will use YOUR car

that way she can pass the driving test once she goes to the DMV &

be able to drive the car you already have.

my wife here in new hampshire will learn on my 5speed corolla

it's an 94' with a boat load of miles on it so i really don't much care

if she bangs it up the 1st year or two. that is how she will learn.

i really think her moving in with some family member or yours would be best

or staying in the Philippines till you return from your deployment.

good luck

Besides the driving issue, how does your fiancee feel about you deploying so soon after her arrival? My husband is in the air force as well and if he had told me he would deploy so soon after our wedding, I would have stayed in Germany until his return.

IT's not only the driving, she wouldn't really know anyone, anything, no means to go anywhere without help from pretty much strangers. Unless she is very outgoing and/or there are other Philippinas in the area, this could be very very difficult for her. Who could she turn toin an emergency?

If possible, I'd reallyreconsider your plans and get married when you come back from your deployment so you can start your marriage actually together and you could help her to settle in and adjust and make friends and all that before you deploy again.

I don't know but you are setting your fiancee up for a really rough start in the US.

Is there any reason why you guys have to get married before the deployment? After all, she has 6 months to enter the US after her visa is issued....

I assumed you are stationed in Fort Sill. If she's going to stay in Lawton my hubby and I might be able to give her a ride sometimes.
