I'm sitting here chatting with Alan and I told him that he'll get his visa back from the embassy via courier. They collect your passport at the embassy and then send it back with the visa. I said that he is to not open the packages. He asked "if you can't open the envelope, what to do you when they're checking your passport at the airport/cruise terminal (we're hoping to cruise) when you leave the country?" Now I'm all confused. Do the passports come in an outer envelope and the "special" paperwork in a separate one that you can't open or is it all in one?

We married on Aug 24, 2013 in a small ceremony in MA

We'll be applying for a CR1 / IR1 visa as soon as we are able

Yes you will get your passport and a package marked "do not open" (or something to that affect) which you will hand in at your POE.

Heh thanks! I figured as much, but he's a guy and is over thinking things. He's just convinced he'll do something stupid and screw things up for us

You will get a UPS envelope. You can open that. Inside you will find your passport and a do-not-open package, marked as such in several languages. There's no way to get confused when you see it.
