My wife just became a US citizen Friday. How long should we wait before sending in the paperwork to bring her parents? Just want to make sure we are sending the correct items also. I-130, marriage contract of her parents, birth certificate of each parent and my wife, copy of wife's naturalization, marriage contract from us getting married to show reason for her name change. I dont think we need to send the I-485 because they are not in the US yet. Is there anything we are missing? Any help would be great. Thanks and good luck to everyone.

hi,

no need to wait, as soon as she has her naturalization certificate she can file for her parents. she doesn't need her parent's birth certificate, she needs her birth certificate. petitions for parents are filed separatly, so she needs to send 2 of everything.

any copies of documents in foreign language have to have a translation in English attached to them.

she needs copy of her birth certificate, copy of parents marriage certificate and copies of divorce decree if there is one, the i130, proof of citizenship that can be copy of her naturalization certificate or American passport if she has it.

Congratulations. You can file right away. Do it as soon as possible. We just brought Tata and Nana few weeks ago from Philippines and I hired no lawyers. We did it ourselves. Good luck.

This is why I asked questions. I read the I-130 instructions wrong. I dont need the BC's. After your comment I read it again and its only thr marriage certificate. Thanks

correct, your wife needs her birth certificate to prove that each one of them are her parents. her father and mother names should be on her birth certificate.

You can file immediately. You won't need to send an I-485 at any point as they will receive IR-5 visas and enter the US as LPRs - no AOS necessary.

Thanks very much. This is good news because we will get to save some money.
