Hi guys,

I went to SS office a week ago to change my last name and status.. I have noticed on the letter they gave that my middle name was not change to my last name when i was still single.

For example:

Maiden name is Lorien Ocampo Dizon, since i already married it should be: Lorien Dizon Bennett..

but what reflected on my SS is Lorien Ocampo Bennet.. Since i came from Philippines and the practice their when u get married is that you maiden surname will now be you middle name.

Then last friday i tried to get a state ID, but when i submitted the form, which i write on the papaer as Lorien Dizon Bennet, the officer told me that it did not match on the SSN that i gave, maybe because of the middle name.

Now my question are:

1. Should i go to SS to change my name again, this is the third time i will be going there.. Does middle name is important here in the US?

2. If i stick on the name on my SS and put it on my Immigration form, will there be a problem? will the middle will be an issue with them?

3. Just in case my EAD, AP and green card be issue under the same name on my SS, will i encounter a problem when i travel outside the US? coz my passport is in my maiden name.

I believe to change First and Middle name you need a court order or naturalization ceremony to do that.

If it was me I will go back to SS Office to explain what happen and ask advice what you can do to change your middle name. When I went and change my last name I didnt have problem. I filled out the forms properly and the lady ask me to confirm it if its correct.

2-28-2012 - Return Receipt.

3-05-2012 - NOA I-797C received for I-485, I-765 and biometrics appointment for 3-29-2012

3-07-2012 - Sent Notice to Reschedule Appointment at local ASC by certified mail

3-10-2012 - Return Receipt

3-20-2012 - received text/email the case is transferred

3-24-2012 - NOA I-797C notice received that the case is transferred at CSC

3-30-2012 - Received NOA I-797 New Biometrics Appointment for 4-24-2012

Each state would have laws regarding first name/middle/last and how to change it. Everything has to match, that includes the information you give to your employer or other places.

Middle name isn't really important in the US. It seems like you only have an initial instead of a middle name. : )

K1 process, October 2010 > POE, July 2011

I-129F approved in 180 days from NOA1 date. (195 days from filing to NOA2 in hand)

Interview took 224 days from I-129F NOA1 date. (241 days from filing petition until visa in hand)

From filing I-129F petition until POE: 285 days

the way it was explained to us was you cant change your middle name here in America without goinng and having a legal name change through the court system. They said the legal name is what is on the birth certificate. The changing the middle name is a Filipino thing not recognized by American rules.
