Has anyone in Canada sponsored their partner from the US this way?

Considering this is possibly the best route for my boyfriend and I, and we meet all requirements I was wondering about the pros and cons.

Please share your experience with me or you knowledge of this, thank you!

The cons are that it might be difficult to prove to USCIS that your conjugal relationship is recognized as a common law marriage in Canada. Lacking a marriage certificate, they're going to require proof that you're legally married. Not all marriages, common law or otherwise, are recognized in the US. Specifically, marriages which are considered offensive to the laws of the United States are not recognized under federal law, which includes such things as same-sex marriages and plural marriages.

Why not just get a civil wedding so you'll have a certificate to clinch the deal?

Are you talking immigration to the USA or to Canada? If to Canada, I can move this thread to the Canadian forum (VJ is about immigrating to the USA, but someone in the Canadian forum may have some knowledge).
