Indian Visitor Visa: Experiences

Hello Everyone,

My husband and I are applying for my mother-in-law's visitor visa this summer. We both are US Citizens. She is a government school teacher so the best option for her to visit us is in summer when schools are out. She still has 5+ years left for her retirement so her over staying here is not an option. We saw the application is online and the rest of the process is seems very easy. So our only questions are

1. What do the consulate officer asks during the interview?

2. What things the consulate officer sees more importantly when issuing the visa?

Please share your experiences of your parents/relatives when gone for visitor visas...What they thought that if they kept in mind before would have changed the results or anything they want to suggest to new applicants...

Since she is a gov employee, and have alot of strong ties with her home country, then it wouldnt be problem to get visitor visa. Just ask her to bring the employment letter, supporting doc that shows strong ties with her home country. That is it. It shouldn't be any problem in this case.

What they will ask? They will ask common questions, about where, who is there, etc etc. Hardly 4-5 questions, or extra few more. That is it!

The most important thing is that she will leave.

Being a government employee, it might be hard to get the employment letter but it is not impossible. As you know how our government responds when you request some kind of letter from them..

iT'S much easier for older adult in India to get a tourist visa than younger folks, I've posted a sample invite letter awhile back. As long as you can show a house info, her work, and letting know on the letter the time period she will be with you, you'll be fine but it's all at the discretion of the consulate officer.

When we applied at the New Delhi embassy for my husband he was only asked two questions. Why did he want to go to the US and how much money did he make. Once he answered the money question they denied him. They didn't ask for our proof of real estate holdings or how much was in our bank account. I'm in a group with about 300 gori's and the ones who went through the tourist visa process said it took 2-3 tries to get it. BUT, that is in the situation of a mixed marriage. From all of their experiences and my own I gather they're looking mostly for monetary assets primarily.
