Hi to all. Sorry if this is not in the right board. This is my first post.

I am gathering all our papers and documentation and I have seen people say there are certain things you are not supposed to staple for the package. Is that correct?

I am sending as much proof as I have, and since we don't have any property or cars in both names (no ssn for him), I am making copies of all cards, letters we've received in the 5 years we've been together, which as you can imagine is a ton of papers, but most of them have 3 pieces of paper for each card (copy of envelope addressed to us, copy of card itself, copy of inside of card with writing to us), so these need to be sectioned off somehow.

Is there a problem with stapling all of those or does the "no staple" rule apply mostly to the vital pieces of documentation, copies of passports/IDs, photos, intent letters, etc.

Thanks in advance!

Moved from IR-1/CR-1 Process & Procedures to General Immigration-Related Discussion; topic applies to all submissions to USCIS.

OP, do not use staples anywhere in your file. You can use large paperclips to separate the items you wish to "section off."

For USCIS, don't staple anything.

Later...

NVC specifically instructs to staple tax returns and transcripts by year and the I-864 application as well.

It's written in the instructions linked through the payment portal.

Use paper clips if you want, but why not follow what they ask for? If they didn't want staples, they wouldn't ask for them...

there is no "rule" about it. USCIS people HATE staples because whatever you send them they take it apart and put it in their folder in the order they choose and they do not want to pull out your staples.

use paper clips for everything, easier for you too.
