This embassy in Ghana has got to be the worst ran embassy of all American embassies.

If not, it's still way at the top. Pure incompetency. I remember someone was saying how incompetent they

are and it turned into a whole different argument about federal workers. That's besides

the point. Even when they approve your visa they tell you to come back in 5 weeks for your

visa. An apparent backlog. I dont think any other embassy has that kind of backlog. Okay backlogs happen, that we can take.

You go back in five weeks, they make you wait until 12.30(which is when they close by the way)

and they tell you come back again next week. We couldnt print out all the visas in 5 weeks. Sweet.

So why didnt you tell me come in six weeks. It's not a problem if my fiancee lives in Accra and doesnt

work. But hey she has an obligation to the kids she teaches and lives towards the most northern part of Ghana

and this consulate is in as far south as you can go in Ghana. Do you leave the kids you teach for one week

without a teacher or go back and teach for three days and start coming again. The long and perilous bus ride.

The bus fare. Thank God she has friends she can lodge with or that would be hotel expenses too.. A simply phone call would have

helped. Your visa is not ready come back on so and so date. You know people want to come to America but they

still have lives to live in Ghana.If this is not the height of incompetency tell me what is.End of rant.

I really understand your anger , but incompetency has no role to play in this anyway, I only think they are just taking us for a ride and all that we have to pray for is things to change , maybe our Government is not doing enough , because there has been a lot of complains and yet nothing seem to be changing there. Just take it easy ok , you have already waited for 5 weeks and one more week is just like a day , very soon you fiance will be with you soon ok,

They will never change until we make them change. Find your Congressman and write a well worded brief letter. I beleive if they get enough of them they have to at least look into what is going on. We keep making excuses for them we deserve better and we will never receive it until we demand it. Ghana is a major player in America securing some rights in Africa. Do not forget the oil. Do you think Bush gave money to build the road and Obama is making telephone calls to your president and states are investing in the Ghana because they like the climate. It is about money. We have more power than we think, however we act like beggers. Write to your President so the next time they are talking on the phone let him say to Obama "by the way I got this ton of letter regarding your Embassy you might want to look into that". Who knows, but what we do know is doing nothing gets us 5 weeks of waiting only to come to be sent home with nothing.

I totally understand how u feel. The embassy in Ghana is far from perfect. However, there has been a big improvement recently that needs to be acknowledged. For the past few years, people were waiting for 12 - 18 months after their cases closed at NVC before getting an interview date (which was also several months ahead). That horrible practice has changed since late last year, and now the waiting period ranges from a few weeks to a few months (much better than 12 - 18 months). My wife, for example, was scheduled for an interview exactly 10 days after our case closed at NVC, and her interview date was only a month and a week away. I guess because they "fixed" the waiting period mess, now that has affected the visa pick up times as well due to the increase in approvals. I know my wife would prefer waiting a few weeks for her visa to waiting over a year for an interview date. I do agree with you on the embassy's bad communication habit. I just wish they'd do a little more forecasting to see if the visa would be available by that date and if not, simply contact the applicant. I've even heard of people's passport being misplaced when they went to pick up their visas. That's just unheard of. Hopefully, the next change at the embassy will be a positive one regarding the visa pick up times and communication habit.
