Hi all,

I started a new job on February 1, 2012 after being unemployed since my graduation from graduate school in May 2011. My current salary is well over the 125% of the federal poverty guidelines for my household size, so I know that that part of my affidavit will be adequate. I am wondering how much significance my previous unemployment, and before that, living off of student loans for 2 years while in graduate school, while have on whether my affidavit of support is approved.

Thanks!

Being in School is a good reason for unemployment. There is a 9 month Null from the time of Graduation to a Full-time job.

Make a Time-line. How long ago did you File the Petition? There is plenty of time to show income for the interview/and or delay the Petition.

Keep Currant with the Student Loan Payments and show proof to your Finace'Fiancee' if asked at the Interview.

The Employment Letter is the most Important of things here to show Support.

Make a Time-Line. Makes it easier to answer questions.

Current income is the most important factor. You were a student, and can state that to them. Provide an employment letter that states your position(is it full time and permanent? they should state that), and salary. Provide a few months worth of recent pay stubs as well. Having a low income on previous tax returns and just starting a new job may or may not affect you. It would be up to the CO that interviews your fiance. If it is possible, you should have a co-sponsor lined up just in case they ask for one. Perhaps others that went through Peru could shed more light on what is accepted at the consulate there.

Thanks, everyone! I'm glad to hear that I probably won't have any problems. I do intend to fill in my timeline as soon as I actually have started the whole process, but I haven't yet. I'm trying to gather as much information now, before starting the process, in order to avoid as many problems as possible once the ball gets rolling. Just trying to play it safe. Thanks again!

If you haven't even filed the I-129F petition yet, then there is even less to worry about. The average time from filing the petition to getting approval and then an interview at the consulate scheduled is 6-8 months. You will have been working at your job for closer to a year by then. The I-134 and financials do not come into play until the interview stage. http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1guide
