Topic says it all. We are filling out and gathering all the forms for the packet - including proof of joint residency. From my research it sounds like the fee will be $1070 (for the AOS form + EAD and AP) plus $88 x 2 for the Affidavits.

The step by step guide says to include a check in the packet... but I found this on the Travel.state.gov website

"General Fee Payment Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Can the AOS or IV Application Processing Fee be paid at the US Embassy/Consulate General instead of submitting fees to the NVC?

No, fees must be paid to the NVC using the online Immigrant Visa Invoice Payment Center. If you are unable to pay online, you must submit a cashier's check or money order to the NVC's St. Louis address.

Can fees be paid through a bank abroad?

No, all payments must be made in U.S. dollars drawn on a U.S. bank.

Can fees be paid over the phone?

No, the National Visa Center cannot accept fee payments over the phone.

Can fees be paid with personal check or credit card?

No, the National Visa Center cannot accept personal checks or credit card payments."

So now I am confused; no one keeps their websites properly updated. Should I put a cashier's check in the packet? Should I mail them separately to St Louis? Is there a place to file the fees online? Do I do that before or after I send the packet?

Accurate information is on USCIS website here.

Filing Fee :

$985. (Add $85 biometric fee for a total of $1070, where applicable. See the form instructions for payment details.) You must make your check payable to Department of Homeland Security.

You can download the instruction sheet, details are on page 8.

Are you filing AOS from a K-1 visa? Then the fee is $1070 period. You do not send anything to the NVC. Put your check or money order in with the paperwork you are sending to the Chicago lockbox.

Also, you do not need any other proof besides a copy of your certified marriage certificate. Save all other evidence for the interview, if you have one. Check the guides here for a list of what is needed: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?autocom=custom&page=k1k3aos

Have you perhaps found the information for the other AOS - the Affidavit of Support? That is paid to NVC by those doing the spouse visa along with the IV fee.

To avoid confusion and incorrect information, always use the USCIS website. They have their information on everything they need you to know about filing with them. Avoid those travel websites. Also remember to read application instructions.
