I see so many posts on here about prior marriages and large age gaps especially between older women and younger men being a BIG RED FLAG!!

My question is why does the United States let us apply and pay fees if this is a reason to deny?

I am thinking because it can not be the reason to deny. They have to just say you are lying about having a bona fide marriage after you pay all these fees and go through all the stress and waiting time.

Something is just not right with this process. CO's need to be retrained. This is not 1955. This is 2012. People get divorces. Young men marry older women. Blacks marry whites. Men marry men. People meet online and marry quickly.

Yes there are a lot of fraud cases out there. But take out the above factors and train these CO's to find the real fraud cases instead of bogging down the system with couples who have to be reaffirmed and interviewed two and three times because they are not the same age, same religion, same color.

Real fraud reasons folks: Do we know what those are?

I read your post, but also read down to the "Thank you my wonderful God in Heaven." I've heard my husband say a few times, "man proposes; God disposes." Perhaps it's not in God's plan that you be approved the first, second, or third time. Perhaps it's not in God's plan that you and your husband live in the US. My plan was to have my husband come to the US to visit first on a tourist visa. God's plan was to deny it and have me go to Nigeria and had that not happened I never would have seen things intended for me to see. At the end of the day remember your words and live them "Thank you wonderful God in Heaven."

Olami, Everything is in God's time and plan. Nothing can stop anything He wants for you if it is His plan. My question was why would people be allowed to apply for immigrant visas if they would be denied solely for the reasons I listed. Together forever gave a great list that makes sense to me and if the CO's go by this list they would never deny someone based on the list I gave alone.

I no longer have stress or any problem myself over this process because I know that whatever is meant to be will be if it is Blessed by God.

I just want others who are starting this process to be able to keep hope that they will be treated fairly and not denied simply for the reasons I listed.

Life is Great when God is in control. Leaving for Turkey tomorrow to see my wonderful husband again. :)

:thumbs:Hear Hear!! Totally agree with the above. And I also find it difficult to buy into the whole "not culturally normal" attitude. I get it, believe me. But I'm not trying to immigrate to my fiance's country, he's trying to immigrate to the US and cultures are different here. So why does our relationship have to follow what's culturally normal in his home country? I understand that family plays a part in every relationship, but we're not living with the family and if our families are in agreement anyways, why would couples be denied or at least be put into AP based on "not culturally normal"? Just my opinion.

It just goes to show that in some circumstances, it STILL is a man's world. It's ok for a 50 year old man to marry a 22 year old woman and everyone give him a pat on the back. But when a woman does it,the thinking is that she is being used and he just needs a meal ticket. I wish people would just open their eyes and realize love comes in all shapes, sizes, and ages.

Are you saying that there is a definite, documented bias against older women marrying younger men? Has that just been your personal experience, or do you have any statistics on their refusal rates?

They can interview us a thousand times as long as they don't say no. Salatiel wants me to quit my job and come to Honduras anyway. Maybe someday that is how it will turn out. I still have issues here in the states that hold me back, though.

It is my opinion that the majority of things I have read on VJ indicate that there is, but remember that whatever is in God's Plan will happen. I listed so many things in my life that I did everything I could to avoid and I could not because they were meant to be. I then realized that God has a plan for our life and we can take the wrong road and still end up where He wants us to be. God will set up the circumstances in your life to make whatever is to suppose to happen happen no matter what you do. Now if you want a miracle and you just lay on the couch hoping He makes it happen, He will not without you getting up and doing your part. Do what you can and Let God do the rest. Trust Him.

It's not 2012 all over the world, if you catch my drift.

For proof of that just read the application forms that ask about being part of the Nazi party. I find that very offensive given how old someone would have to be, yet our wonderful government has not see fit to revisise these forms and remove that. Why? I wonder how long it will be before they remove this reference.

I also feel that the Department of State should be honest on their webiste and list the red flags that they feel will stop a couple from getting a visa. Then we wouldn't waste our time or money. My husband and I have an age difference, I am Black and he is Asian and we got married very quickly. Also he is Muslim and I am Christian. From what I understand all of these things could be considered red flags. When I married my husband I had no idea what red flags were. I learned them later on VJ.

My husband is in AP and has been for almost 15 months. He's had 2 interviews and they did a field investigation on him. We are at the point where we just want an answer. Either they will give us the visa or they won't.
