Hi,

I was selected in the DV lottery and got my visa issued last year summer. I admitted into US on December 2011 and left US end of december 2011. My visa expired on 5 January 2012 and now I plan to go back to US.

I think I read somewhere that if a person enters US before expiry date the visa he/she has extends +6 months. I have my concerns about this . Is the information I have correct?

Don't you have your GC?

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Was your passport stamped upon entry? Usually the passport gets stamped on the visa page, and that acts as a temporary greencard for one year.

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. When I entered use my passport got stamped on the page next to US visa.

I attached a photo of the stamp I have on my passport. Is this the stamp you were referring to ?

Normally they stamp it on the visa but I think that should be ok.

They should have put the I-551 temporary stamp in your passport, which serves as a temporary evidence of the LPR status until you get your plastic GC.

Did you get that?

CBP hasn't been doing that for years now. Regular admitted stamp with the correct visa category, in this case, DV1 is perfectly ok. This is what OP received. This turns immigrant visa into temporary I-551 until real one shows up.
