..being married to someone from a non arab country DOES exempt u from service to over 90% of ppl that file...the problem here if u dropped out of school or u were have to turn ur self in before marriage n u skipped ur turn that wat does the damage to ur case n they will take u in immediately even if u fall under other categories that get exempted normally..

Looking forward to your separate topic on this. I'm particularly interested in what you mean by the above about turning yourself in before marriage and skipping your turn that does the damage. Some of the cases of foreign wives married to Egyptian that were taken into the military fit the category of their husbands not attending college or dropping out of college but they were still married. While others of us don't fit that category at all and our husbands were taken after the completion of college, or medical degrees or advanced degrees.

Also please tell us more about this paperwork for filing for exemptions. Is there an actual paper to file for an exemption because they are married to a non-Arab wife?

u got it!..probably wat threw u off was the "skipping your turn" thing, well here we have certain time when u should go turn ur self in, which is after finishing school normally with few months..if u failed to do so, they consider u "escaped" service or watever the hell they call it...

Yep me and about 12 dozen others. The only thing is they all turned themselves in. They didn't try to escape service. Though I hear you can easily do that if you never turn yourself in because you won't be in their system and it's not like they have the man power to come collect you. As long as you are willing to avoid them until the age of 30 and then pay the fine for avoiding your mandatory service. Which is of course the other part I forgot to mention beside only traveling during non-school sessions if you're going to apply for the K1 and get away with it like others have on here.

Here is another question...

My fiance may or may not be getting a scholarship to travel to the states for 3 months this year. He will be interning at a school in my state. Is it possible to get married while he is here?? Would he have to travel back to egypt while we work on the visa? or can he stay in the states and we can work on the papers?
