I-864 and I-864a question

Hi all,

My wife and I are residing in Ireland and we are starting the process of applying for a visa for me.

Our situation is that my wifes mother (living in the states) will be sponsoring me (co-sponsoring?) but we're confused about the forms.

Because my wife has been living and working outside the states for a few years, it appears that the criteria for sponsorship for me seems to automatically cancel her out as the only sponsor. So from this we will need a co sponsor. Is this correct?

If this is the case then we will be using her mother to co sponsor me.

Regarding the I-864, I understand that it is a general form, but in order to fill it out correctly some questions do not make sense.

Part 1,1,a: If my wife is the petitioner and not the sponsor she ticks this, but what does she do for the rest of the form as it turns form an affidavit of support to a sponsorship form.

Part 1: I assume we tick '1, d, first' for my wife, and '1, d, second' for her mom?

Part 3: We know to tick number 8, but do we select 'Yes' or 'No'? There is no question that asks a yes or no question.

Part 4: We put in our address I'm assuming (Again, my wife, who is living with me abroad)?

Part 5: '21, c' What do we put in here? As in: 'Persons you are sponsoring in the affidavit' is 1, me. 'Persons you are NOT sponsoring in this affidavit', you have to put in the sponsor (my wife), but then part C say's 'If you are currently married, enter "1" for your spouse', yet, I am her husband and I am the person being sponsored, which makes this question contradictory.

Part 5,h: From last point, in order to complete as on the form, we'd put in 3 people living in the household, yet it's just the two of us.

Her

Or is all this completely unapplicable, and just her mom fills out the I-864 or I-864a(?) as the only sponsor as she is the only one with a current US income/assets? All the questions seem to be for someone living and working in the US.

If she is working outside of the States for few years, then possibility she needs to co-sponsor for your case ( Just for safe side ). Her mom needs to fill out I-864 for co-sponsor form and provide all supporting doc.

If she has any house-hold member, then that person may file I-864a ( This is an optional form ), may require based on case-to-case.

Please read the guides here to get more familiar with this process - http://www.visajourney.com/content/guides

Thanks for your quick response iwaiting.

When you say "If she has any house-hold member, then that person may file I-864a ( This is an optional form ), may require based on case-to-case.", do you mean my wife or her mom? So does my wife have to fill in an I-864, and if she does but cannot fill out the rest as it is not applicable to her (guide says she has to show current income or job in US), then what does she fill in on the form?

Thank you
