Not sure what their adjustment factor is but having sat outside the consulate and watched people leaving and also having seen the rejections for the local conventions I know it is no where near 60%. It is pretty consistant that 2-5 out of 40 get approved. The numbers by nationality would also include Nigerians that reside in other countries applying there ( it is so much easier for a Nigerian in the UK or Germany to get a visa to the US) The rates out of Lagos/Abuja are horribly low.

so based on one day's observation and a few tales of visa denials, you arrived at a 90% denial rate, which oddly is the same one quoted for Colombia, the Philippines, Eastern Europe and the planet Neptune.

But let's suppose the denial rate in Nigeria was upwards 75%...why do you think that is (or might be) the case? Could it be that perhaps more than a few Nigerians abuse the visa privilege? Or that many applicants offer fake documents, 'business' invitations, etc?

I read a report a year or two ago that made the statement that there is no other country in the world that leads the way with various types of fraud, including visa fraud than Nigeria. On a per capita basis, the estimates of that report suggest 3 out of 4 applicants carried fraudulent supporting documents to the interview. The compliance rate was listed at somewhere around 30%........neither of those two numbers would stimulate confidence in a VO to issue an otherwise questionable visa.

And whose fault is all of this? One guess.

That same report also noted that the compliance rate for those claiming to attend 'conventions' was approximately 5%. Not too stellar.

Forgetting all the other posts on approvals, I would NOT send a copy of my passport. It is not needed. And if some one is demanding it, I would be a bit suspicious. He is applying for a visitation visa and he needs to stand on his own two feet with this. It has nothing to do with you.

There is a lot of fraud in Nigeria but I meet alot of very good people while I was there. There are alot of bad people here in the states too but I would not say a whole country is bad because some people there are bad. I would never defend stealing or lieing but seeing how people live there I can understand what motivates them and for the most part it is not greed it is desperation... But everyone is entitle to there own opinon this is mine and you are welcome to yours. As far as sending him a copy of your passport if you are worried about him having a copy of your passport then think about what you are doing you have to decide if you trust him or not if you dont maybe you should rethink moving to Nigeria and just visit for a few weeks or not go at all until you are more comfortable with him. Again that is just my opinion. Best of luck in whatever you do because it is Nigeria and that is a stigma that you will have to overcome no matter what the truth is...

Why are so many of the applications seen by the Consulate fraudulent?

He interviewed last June for b2. I figured it would be cheaper to have him come here for a visit (airfare, hotel, food, transportation). When it got denied, I had no choice, but bite the bullet and go to him. We are currently petitioning for CR1 (I removed my timeline). Have you ever visited him in Nigeria?

I haven't gone to visit him yet, hoping to head there in June if he cannot get the b2, if he gets the b2 we will go to lagos together in july :-)

Somebody else wanting a copy of your passport just sounds suspicious...

we decided not to center our visit on us meeting, now he is asking for an invitation letter, I will be drafting one from m moms company and forwarding it soon wish me luck

Thank you, I understand, moving forward with a new plan.
