Hallos! I am dating a man from lagos, nigeria. I plan to move there with him in july. Before I relocate I would like him to meet my family. We are getting ready to try for the b2 visa. He has a good job, 2 vehicles, a travel agent, a letter of support from his employer, and he has the deed to his families home, along with some other documents from his mother....... think we can pass? its a shot in the dark at the moment.

He is fairly confident he can because his employer helped one of his coworkers and he has no intentions of living in the states. Please share your thought and success if anyone is out there

Be frank, it really depends up to how he explains himself, and what the CO thinks about that. Your guy can give a try, but make sure to bring the doc that shows strong ties with his home country. Make sure, he gives the honest reason to visit the State.

his agent will take care of the rest.

agent? They cant help anything. It is totally depend up to applicant.

Whatever he explains, it must be bold reason.

Alert: I heard, sometimes agent may add the false doc, etc etc, please stay away from such people. Such stuff can be trouble in the future.

He has a travel agent a nice trustworthy man he is the one demanding I must send a copy of my passport in order for him to help my boyfriend move forward with his visa

All right, he can try! But since B1/B2 visa application is so simple, and really doesn't need any agent help to organize the doc. In the interview, he may be asked 4-5 questions. That is it! Done!

An invitation letter is one thing but a copy of your passport is completely unnecessary in order for him to apply for a B2.

My husband and I tried for b2 and were unsuccessful. He says when the lady saw my passport she starting asking questions about me...oh she's a US citizen? Is she your friend? Then implied I was a girlfriend and it was over from that point. She never took the time to read any of the letters from employer, pastor or family.

The chances of getting a b2 visa are about 10% , less if you are single and young. The basic theory is you have to provide enough proof that you are returning to overcome their assumption that you will skip out and stay in the US. This is somewhat dependant on the CO, but usually nearly impossible for the more or less average Nigerian.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

I'm curious, why do you say 10%? The annual approval rate for B visa's from Nigeria is usually over 50%. (62% last year).

Apparently 90% is the VJ failure rate for most Consulates. Same number quoted in another thread.

That's good info thanks for sharing, will you try again for the visa? Is ur husband in the lagos area?

He interviewed last June for b2. I figured it would be cheaper to have him come here for a visit (airfare, hotel, food, transportation). When it got denied, I had no choice, but bite the bullet and go to him. We are currently petitioning for CR1 (I removed my timeline). Have you ever visited him in Nigeria?

Not sure what their adjustment factor is but having sat outside the consulate and watched people leaving and also having seen the rejections for the local conventions I know it is no where near 60%. It is pretty consistant that 2-5 out of 40 get approved. The numbers by nationality would also include Nigerians that reside in other countries applying there ( it is so much easier for a Nigerian in the UK or Germany to get a visa to the US) The rates out of Lagos/Abuja are horribly low.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.
