Hi everyone,

I finally filed I-130 petitioning my brother to come here under F4 category; However, I put a wrong date on form I-130. My brother was divorced once before, but I wasn't sure about this divorce date, so I just put the YEAR only. However, I just figured out that the YEAR I put down on form I-130 is incorrect too.

I could have waited for my brother to get his divorce decree before I could file I-130. Please note that my brother lost his divorce decree, and it might take months for him to apply for a duplicated copy while his child can be at risk of being over-aged by the due date of the petitioning file (a decade later).

Anyway, I filed the I-130 with incorrect year of his divorce already. Is there any way I can write a letter to USCIS to explain this, and of course, I'll attach the duplicated copy of the divorce decree once I got it from my brother? Or should I wait till the due date of the file which is a decade later to do the explanation?

Please help. Thanks a lot for your input.

don't worry, they can correct that at a later stage, the wait is over 10 years, so they can correct that at the NVC stage. it's nothing that can't be corrected when they have to send the documents.
