Hi All,

So my wife was approved for CR-1 and Enter USA on Jan. 30 2010 (POE LAX). We got a welcome letter some time late in Feb. and got the Green Card on Feb 28. We have still not received here Social Security Card (SSN) though! We went to the local social security administration office today and they said they have not received any application for her. I called USCIS and they said i should get a INFOPASS and check at the local office if they have any status there. In our DS230 we checked the boxes to apply for SSN (43a and 43b) and yet we have not received any thing. Is this normal? I read most people got there SSN before the GC. Should I go to the social security administration office and apply for SSN? or just wait? I afraid that if I apply at the administration office and then they get the application from USCIS they will issue 2 SSN. Is that even possible?

First, you cannot get 2 social security numbers. Second, it is possible that the USCIS computers have not updated the SS computers ( it can take a few weeks) and that is what is causing your problem. Many people do get a SS before the GC but they usually apply for it directly with SS.

So if we apply for SS at local office and then USCIS computers "update", there will not issue/conflict correct?

Ankit, go and make infopass appt and talk to some one in USCISoffice.

OR may be, your wife has entered as before marriage name and you are requesting SSN under her married name.
