Certified Copy of Marriage Certificate???

Hi there

After completing the paperwork for AOS we have come across something that is worrying us, when we got married we were only issued 1 marriage certificate, no copys.

It is marked original, signed, stamped dated etc... It is not a triple seal just single.

Our question is will a photocopy made by ourselves be acceptable for the AOS stage?

Yes, you only need to send a copy.

Copies. Unless specifically required that an original document be filed with an application or petition, an ordinary legible photocopy may be submitted. Original documents submitted when not required will remain a part of the record, even if the submission was not required.

B. Based on admission as the K-1 fiancé(e) of a U. S. citizen and subsequent marriage to that citizen

Attach a copy of the fiancé(e) petition approval notice, a copy of your marriage certificate, and your Form 1-94, Arrival/Departure Document.

Hey! I am going to send a copy also but get it notarised :)

Why are you getting it notarized? There is no requirement to do so. Furthermore, it is meaningless to get a public notary to sign off on it since the notary cannot attest it is a true and accurate record because he/she is not the government agency in charge of keeping that record.

I thought I read somewhere that getting it notarized would help but maybe I was mistaken. If just a copy is required then I will send this instead :)

Nothing needs to be notarized.
