I'm submitting an I-90 for USCIS error today. I was issued a CR1 green card instead of IR1 even though I was married >2 years at POE and CBP officer stamped in I551 as IR1.

At any rate, I procrastinated way too long. My conditional green card expires in September (~6 months from now). I'm filing the I-90 to get it replaced with the correct IR1 LPR green card. But reading around it looks like it is a very slow process.

My question is, since currently my status is (erroneously) CR1, what happens if my green card expires before I get it replaced (or maybe denied, who knows) from the I-90?

I know I can get an infopass and get a temporary 551 stamp, but what is the expiration on that? Just until September, or does it temporarily extend it while the I-90 is being processed?

Many thanks!

What is the date of the current I-551 stamped in your passport? Sounds like you have the correct "GC" in the stamp that is currently in your passport--IR1. You can show that until you get the replacement GC. I would say you are good to go other than it being a pain to carry the passport to show people your GC and then having to explain it to the uneducated.

The original stamp expired Sep 2011, so it's no longer valid. I suppose if I do an infopass to get it restamped they would see the IR1 and put in another IR1 though? While the I-90 is waiting for processing?
