That's laughable. I can tell you from personal experience that less armed societies are safer than more armed societies. The intentional homicide rate in the US is more than five times that of Germany, for example. It's about 10 times that of Austria, roughly 4 times that of the UK or Australia. And so on, and so forth. More arms in more hands do NOT make a society safe and do NOT curb crime.

Could it be that the society just has less crime in general because of other factors?

Here is the UK. Note that handguns were banned in 1997.

I think the real issue is not firearm related but gang violence personally. Both countries have it, but its worse here.

Here is a fact. I have been al over the world. Been to many with way more restrictive than Europe that were more violent than the U.S. Asia in particular. Restrictive gun laws can't and will not make us safer. Fact.

I could still kill you though. Fact.

I think he's infering that firearms are a force multiplier which is true though most homicides are singular affairs.

For the record, I'd rather be shot than run through with a katana.
