Whatever path you take make sure it leaves a record of both numbers. The embassy no longer accepts 20 pounds of used calling cards and needs to make sure we aren't calling random people in our SO's country . If the service doesn't provide full records it might be cheap to call and expensive in not working at the interview.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Correction...I use Rebtel. You can download the app to your phone, set up acct, generate a local number for the person you are calling, and create a phone record. Save the local number to your phone and dial. My AT&T bill reflects that I'm calling Pittsburg, PA. You can also go online to set it up. I screen print my contact list so that it shows "rebtel" and you can print month by month call logs or print a total history. You're suppose to be able to send SMS from your phone, but for some reason I can't. So I log online when I want to text. Calls to a cell phone are less than 9 cents per minute and texts are less than 5 cents per text.

When I first set this up, I made a mistake and dialed my husband's actual number (instead of the rebtel number) for 60 minutes!!

Amantel is good and very cheap. $5 will give you 102 worth of minutes to call any phone number in Nigeria, No extra charge, hidden fee or connection fee. It gives a year worth of call history as in, you can go back up to a year. Pingo is also good, less minutes ($5 = 59minutes) but crystal clear connection.

I use localphone.com rate is good. Can't remember at this moment. Assigns a local number for you to use to call Nigeria. Also has monthly statements that can be printed. Cheapest way for me so far. I'm also looking into MajicJack plus for free calls between the two of us. If you use Skype you can talk for free too. Because of where my husband is in Nigeria, connectivity is not good so often we don't use the video on Skype.

I use Skype. I set up a "Skype to go" number, which converts my husband's foreign number to a local number, that I can use with my cell phone. Then I added a subscription for calling numbers in his country (which is currently Ghana). It's $15.99 per month for 2 hours of calling time. There are other calling plans, too. That's just the one I went with at the time. You can also add Skype credit if you need additional time. And I believe it charges you 9 cents per minute if you go that route.

I use Vonage. It is an internet based phone service. I have DSL and it works great! I believe it is 11 cents a minute. I have printed almost 2 years of our phone records from having this phone service, and I can also print the calls that my husband has made to me from Nigeria with it. Just recently they started a service called extensions, this service also extends your international calling to any phone (or cell phone) of your choosing for the same price! Good Luck!

I checked into Magicjack, but the trick there was he needed a landline and computer connection. Which meant the only time we could talk was when he was at home, and the connection factor trumped it. NOT convenient! I am going to check into Rebtel, sounds like a good plan!

I am glad someone asked this question, cause those calls are costly!!!

How is the connection Olomi? I have stayed with my current card because the connection is great, but if I can find something less costly with the same clarity in calls, I am going for it!

I use Localphone.com, it's cheap, easy to use, clear calls, and I could print phone records when needed. I still use it whenever I call his sisters who are still in Nigeria.
