Possible careers for me?

Hello everyone,

Visa isn't in my passport yet, but I am starting to get nervous about job prospects. Currently, I am a teacher, a book editor, and an academic researcher. I have a BA in Romanian/English language and lit, and a MA in Comparative lit. I speak English, French, Romanian, and some Spanish/Italian/German.

Any clue as what sort of job might be suitable for me over there?

Have ALL your credentials translated in English;when you get in US they all need to be evaluated in order to obtain an equivalent BA or MA. I personally used WES for my credential evaluation; whether you obtain the quivalent BA/MA here depends on what kind of university you have attended in the past and, more importantly, the curriculum content. For example, WES does not accept credetials from Spiru Haret University and I am sure you can figure out why.

If you are looking to become a teacher, an additional step would be obtaining a teaching certification. The requirements for the teaching certification vary by state and you can find them on that specific state's Department of Education website.

Nonetheless, if your ambitions are higher, and if you are relying on your Romanian MA - expect the possibility of taking additional classes.

What exactly do you mean by credentials (diplome, foi matricole?)? I've read that they also require a short description of the classes taken, and I think you remember we don't have such things.

I remember choosing a course-by-course evaluation because that was in my advantage and served my purpose.That covered all my diplomas & all the classes I have taken in college, as I was looking to apply for my MA in Counseling Psychology. I believe it was around $200.

All I needed was my university graduation diploma and a copy of my academic trascripts aka foaia matricola - translated in English by a certified translator.

"Foaia matricola" would be enough in order for them to see what kind of classes you have taken, what were your grades and how many credits you have earned for each class, semester, etc.

Also, "foaia matricola" needs to be verified, validated and officially mailed to WES by one of your university officials (there is a special request form that you may download from Wes website, fill it out and present it to that university employee in order to be signed. I remember sending my academic transcripts aka foaia matricola over and over again to Wes and I couldn't understand initially why would they reject it. After doing some reading I found out that the envelope needed to be signed by somebody from my university and mailed directly to Wes. Anyway, all this info is on Wes website.
