I am sure people have been approved without their partner going to the interview, however, Ghana is a high fraud area requires a lot of proof. My recommendation is that if you can go, GO. I watched how the CO's treated people at the Embassy. They are rude and move people here, move them there with little respect. When they see the petitioner they seem to have more respect. During our interview the lady interviewed us both and she said "I can SEE that you two know each other well and have spent a lot of time together". They look for that interaction between the couple. I had so many pictures and proof of relationship, she was not going to look through all that stuff (which was my plan) It helps, particularly if you have other red flags, like we did, our age difference is a big red flag. Make sure you have everything especially tax transcripts, tax returns will not work at the Embassy. Also, have every thing in order and present well, they are not patient while you serch through documents. Use the other recommendations here and read throught the Embassy reviews of others. Good Luck!

I didn't go- we had no red flags, had spent a lot of time together and he had no issues.

They won't just let you in when they go in. There is some work to get in at least what other have said.

My fiance was treated great, he was dressed nice but not over dressed and polite to the embassy staff. He was confident because we know our relationship speaks. With plenty of evidence it was a breeze. The CO who interviewed him actually joked with him because Israel responded when asked what he knew about Maine that it was cold and the CO said he would never live there.

Except for the wait and non-communication by email from the embassy I have nothing bad to say about the actual process.

A lot of people were going so they could travel back together, it seems the pickup dates are further from interview now, so I would be careful booking anything before visa is in hand.

I agree with evoria- tax transcripts, new birth certificate, and wait for the police certificate till month before.

Good luck!

I don't think its very necessary for you to be present for the interview, I will be going all by myself , the most important thing is to prove that there is a genuine relationship between the two of you. My fiance's can't be here for my interview because she's been to China early this year and another long trip will not be fine for her, so I think you guys should just prepare very well , US Embassy in Ghana is not bad as people think, its just a matter of proving that there is a legitimate relationship, so gather all the necessary evidence and support your fiance's in the best way you can,

my fiance wasnt with me for the interview and i was approved ;as for the affidavit of support i dont really think they care about how much its your bank account, they care more about you having regular income ( paycheck above poverty line). i say this because my fiance had a very substantial figure in his savings( more than 6 times whats required for the poverty line) but he didnt have a regular paycheck because he just got out the military and was going to school. I was scheduled for a second interview to bring a co sponsor because they said just having savings wasnt enough( though through his bank statements you were able to see the money didnt just drop in miraculously before our interview but it still didnt matter). I say if in doubt get a cosponsor because the second interview set us back about two months for something we could have easily gotten had we known. Good luck my dear! patience is key :)

Can you please do a timeline so that we can use your case to determine when our interview might be.Like most people have said your presence is not required the only bank statement they are interested in is yours since you are the sponsor and that is not something they are really concerned with.id rather have 3 of your most recent pay stubs, W-2 and tax transcripts. So long as you meet the poverty guidelines you will not even require a co- sponsor..I have heard that you will not even be questioned as part of the interview. They may let you in the building once you tell them you are a US citizen but you will not be a part of the interview process. Can you give us an idea of how the interview went?
