NO Medical Exam For AOS! MUST READ

There are many questions about the medical exam required for the AOS I-693. I found it clearly states:

Found in the I-693 Instructions (Section III. Frequently Asked Questions #2.A.B.C.1.2.)

2.What if I am a K nonimmigrant visa holder and already had a medical exam overseas?

(A.B.C situations): If you were admitted as a K-1 fiance and you received a medical examination prior to admission, then:

1. You are not required to have another medical examination as long as your Form I-485 (AOS) is filed within one year of your overseas medical examination and there were not problems found.

2. Even if a new medical examination is not required, you must still show proof that you complied with the vaccination requirements. If the vaccination record (Form DS-3025 you should of requested a copy of this the day of your examination-it is your vacination records filled out that day) was not properly completed and included as part of the original overseas medical examination report, you will have to have the vaccination report completed by a designated civil surgeon. In this case, you are required to submit the vaccination record and PAGE 1 of the I-693.

Yes... we know. The instructions clearly state it yet people will STILL come and ask about it.

Correct and you do not need another medical as long as you files with one year of the medical exam overseas. People will caution on the side of better safe than sorry. They still pay the money for a civil surgeon to transfer the DS-3025 information to I-693 form. Then the Civil Surgeon will tell them they need a new blood test, TB shots etc. charging them from $50 - 300 or more.

Trust me I was siding on safety and went to a civil surgeon. They tried to tell me the exam was not honored here in USA and would need to do a complete medical here for $400. You know my eyes crossed and looked at them like your crazy. I even broke out the VJ chalk board of information and they stood there ground. In the end, I laughed and said have a great day but I'll keep my money.

All you need to do is attach a copy of the DS-3025 form with I-485 form. That's it.

Thank you for the clarification for those who are unsure on the medical, civil surgeon, and DS-3025.

Not quite correct. If the shots are not up to date (many countries don't require you to have complete shots to immigrate like Mexico for example gives NO shots and often no DS-3025) then they need to see a CS to get the missing shots and have a transcription. THAT'S where the problems start. Like you said, they will tell them they need this and that when they don't and all they need is the shots and it transcribed. Best thing to do is make sure shots are complete for AOS purposes (at least one shot in a series) at the K1 stage

This is why it is good to read instructions

That noted...if you do not get the DS3025 because you did not read the instructions and you have to get the I-693 completed by a Civil Surgeon then that Civil Surgeon can require a medical exam just because...he can. It is HIS signature you need and he can charge whatever he wants and require whatever he wants to get it. So the bottom line...get the DS3025 and make SURE your vaccinations are completed before you go for your medical exam or you WILL be paying a lot more money.

The problem we often see here is people asking "Are the vaccines REQUIRED for the visa?" Well, no, BUT if you...."OK Thank you that's all I need to know, bye"

Get your vaccines done BEFORE the medical exam, get the DS3025 and be READY for the next step when you arrive!

They stood their ground because they can. They can simply say "We are charging you $400 for another medical and if you don't like it...leave" They make their own rules. What they told you about it not being honored was probably due to poor training or misrepresentation in their training. But lets face it, if your boss told you something and someone comes in pointing to banter from an unoffical website, which direction will you follow?

The employee was merely doing what employees do, following orders. The way to avoid hassels from employees of CSs following orders is to avoid CSs. Do that by getting your vaccines and DS3025. People in this process have much more control over the outcome and hassle level than they think IF they read and follow directions.

I have been wondering if I still need to see a civil surgeon. My DS-3025 stated that my vaccine history is complete for each vaccine but under the vaccine column, Tdap is checked and the "Not Routinely Available" column is also checked. I am so confused, do I need to see a CS or not?

I feel a lot of us may try out method and it will work out but I feel we should not condemn anyone if it doesn't work out for them that way. For example, the vaccination form from Nigeria is often marked incomplete but the shots taken is good enough for immigration. When I went to designated civil surgeon non of them was ready to sign the first page only without conducting another round of physical exam which ranged from $245-390. After driving round different part of the cities without anyone ready to sign I have to go for the cheapest and pay $245 for another round of medical test. It's painful! but I wasn't ready to just turn in my AOS without due diligence and then give room for RFE. It's better to have the I-693 completed than get RFE and still have to do the form again. The fact is, if you are able to get a civil surgeon transcribe and sign for a token then fine but if not better do what they want, although it's a rip-off.

This is great advice. However, it won't work for those going through Mexico. They will not deal with vaccinations for a K-1 applicant, at all. They would not even transcribe my husband's vaccinations to the DS-3025 when he offered to pay them extra to do it. He left the medical with a copy of a completely blank, and useless DS-3025.

If you have all the required vaccinations at the time of your medical, even if your DS-3025 is marked incomplete- may be eligible for a blanket waiver, you can still just send a copy of the DS-3025 like that and not bother with the CS.

If your DS-3025 is marked as complete, then you do not need to see a CS.
