Hello,

I received a social security number under my maiden name once I arrived in the States under my K-1 visa. Now that I am married and am about to submit the forms for Status adjustment namely - I-485. I have written down my SSN that I had under my maiden name. But do I now have to go and change my SSN with my married name now and only then file the status adjustment forms?

Thank you very much

You don't have to change your name with social security before you lodge AOS. You can go ahead and file for AOS now using your married name, even if the SSN is in your maiden name.

If you want to you can try to change your name with social security, but only if you have more than 2 weeks left on your I-94. If you have less than 2 weeks left on your I-94 you will have to wait until you get your EAD before you can change your name with the social security admin.

No you can file AOS right now as long as you have a complete package. The last name on the SSN wont matter its still your SSN.
