My wife is Canadian and we filed DCF in China for CR-1 because we had been living there for 5 years. During the interview, they requested a few pieces of information (we expected this since the Canadian police certificate had been delayed). The consulate official told her we could mail the information and her passport to the consulate in Guangzhou (where she had her interview) and they would send the passport with visa attached back to us. Therefore, we entered the US as normal but on a tourist visa as they said this was not a problem and they routinely do this.

My question is, does anything specifically happen when one enters with a new visa or will she have any issues if the passport/visa is mailed to her in the US? I guess worst case scenario, we could travel back to Canada and she could "officially" enter if this is necessary. I just want to make sure getting the port of entry stamp isn't what triggers the green card coming in the mail, etc.

I know this probably sounds confusing but if anyone has done something similar that would be great to know!

She has to enter the USA on the spousal visa. It has to be activated on her entry to the USA. The entry stamp is what triggers the green card.
