Hello,

I am filling out the forms for my Status adjustment and I feel really confused and frustrated by the process. I rang USCIS to try and get help with filling out the forms but they said they weren't authorized to tell me anything beyond a very limited script. PLease could you kindly review my (probably stupid) questions below and provide any assistance. I'd be very grateful indeed!!!!

Form I-485

1. - When it requests Family name - do I give my maiden name?

2. - A# is Alien registration number I believe - I entered the US on a K-1 visa and I don't believe I have one - is that correct?

3. - I-94# - I understand this is the departure record - is the number the Admission number then presumably?

4. Current USCIS status = K1 visa. Correct?

5. Expires on - give the K1 visa expiration date not the 1-94 expiration?

Part 3. of form

6. - Nonimmigrant visa number - is that the 'Control number' on the K-1?

7. - Organizations that I have been a member of - I worked for a charity for six months. They would want this written down here too?

8. - Whenever it writes 'Full name' and 'signature' - do I now give my married name? And only give my maiden name when it states 'Family'?

Sorry this may all be incredibly stupid but I want to make sure that I get it right as it's so expensive and it is a very long process!

Thank you all very much in advance!

Are you going to use your married name? you put the name you are using.

2. - A# is Alien registration number I believe - I entered the US on a K-1 visa and I don't believe I have one - is that correct?

YES you have an A# you had one since you got the NOA2 its your registration number. Find it on the NOA2.

3. - I-94# - I understand this is the departure record - is the number the Admission number then presumably?

Its the long number on the top corner.

4. Current USCIS status = K1 visa. Correct?

correct

5. Expires on - give the K1 visa expiration date not the 1-94 expiration?

its the I-94 expiration date. The K-1 already expired the day you used it.

Part 3. of form

6. - Nonimmigrant visa number - is that the 'Control number' on the K-1?

The red number on the visa.

7. - Organizations that I have been a member of - I worked for a charity for six months. They would want this written down here too?

8. - Whenever it writes 'Full name' and 'signature' - do I now give my married name? And only give my maiden name when it states 'Family'?

You sign it and use the name you are using right now - married name. The green card comes in the name you use on the forms. You only put your maiden name on the parts that is says PREVIOUS NAMES USED.

Sorry this may all be incredibly stupid but I want to make sure that I get it right as it's so expensive and it is a very long process!

Thank you all very much in advance!

They have fully filled out example forms to help with this.
