Malaysia Police Certificate problem?

If a person went to Malaysia on a tourist visa valid for a month, and over stayed by say a year with a relative, how is this handled by the Malaysian Police when asked for a certificate? As far as they know, the person was here for a month and left. No record check needed. But oh no we say, I was there longer than I was supposed to be. But I left to go back home, and now require the police check.

Really in a quandary over this one.

Any advice would be appreciated.

07/05/2012 - Arrived in USA. Chicago POE.

07/05/2012 - Arrived in Washington.

07/27/2012 - Married (Yea)

09/01/2012 - AOS, AP, EAD Applied for via USPS Registered Mail

09/09/2012 - EMails for all three forms arrived.

09/1?/2012 - NOA 1s for all three arrived.

Malaysia is one of those countries that requires proof of residence to obtain the police clearance. It has proven to be a frustrating and long (min. 1 month) process for many members of this site that were legal residents of Malaysia. Many found the Malaysian embassy unhelpful and ended up having success once they made contact with someone on the Malaysian end who was willing to follow through.

As Hank_Amy said you will need to apply before you know if you will have a problem. At the very least if it doesn't work you will have to show that you attempted and were unable to get the clearance so you might as well start the process. I would suggest perhaps sending in the required items with a copy of the tourist visa and the entry and exit stamps in the passport and see where that gets you. Be ready to have patience, follow up and be persistent. If you are unable to get the clearance the US embassy will want to see all the effort you made in trying to get the clearance so ask for written statements from the Malaysian authorities as often as you can.

You should also use the search feature to find other members who were in a similar situation. There has to at least be a few. They may not be regular posters so you could always try sending a PM.
