address error

Hi guys. I submitted my I-130 package a few weeks ago, but I recently realized that there was an error on the address in the I-130 form for my husband. His address was too long, so although the form was typed, I had to partially hand-write the additional info in. On the first page of the I-130 (part C2), I correctly wrote his address. However, on the repeat question of my relative's address abroad (question 19), I accidentally left out a key word of the address... and without this word, the mail would not be able to reach him. If the NVC/Consulate uses the address on the first page (part C2), their mail would reach my husband, but if they use the address on question 19, the mail would get lost. What do I do? Can I email someone about the correction? (My application is currently at the California Service Center.) Or do I have to type a letter to someone there? Thanks!

I am spinning my wheels with this here. Since no one had any response, I went ahead and found an email for my service center here, and wrote an email to them (asking the letter to be place in my file with the address correction). I got an automated message back saying there would be no response to my emails in which the NCSC isn't contacted first, as the email is only for follow up (and you need a case number for that based on your phone call). Today I call that NCSC number, and the guy I talked to was awful. He had nothing constructive to tell me at all. When I ask him if I should submit a letter to the service center correcting the address or just wait until it gets to the NVC (since it may not matter to the service center and may simply delay processing), he was like "Thanks for calling the USCIS and have a nice day." I was like "Um, NO, wait, I'm asking you a question here!!!?" Luckily he stays on the line, and I repeat my question, and he's like "It's up to you, ma'm." I tell him that I don't want to delay processing on my case, so if it would be acceptable to just wait until NVC to submit the corrected address, I could just do that if he thinks that would work. He repeats his patronizing words "It's up to you ma'm". I get the feeling he couldn't care less whether my case gets delayed or not, and has no interest in giving me any useful advice. Seeing that I was getting nowhere with him, I then asked "So now that I've talked to you, will my service center be willing to reply to my email since they asked me to talk to you first before responding to email?" He's again like "It's up to you ma'm." I told him he wasn't answering my question, to which he reponds that he can't predict what they would do or not. I ask him if there is any sort of documentation to my call, so that the service center knows I've already been in touch with the national center (so that they accept my email), but the guy says he has no code or anything to give me. (What a waste.) So I just politely thanked him (since I'm not going to jeopardize my case by losing my temper), but I was fuming inside. I have plenty of choice words for him. :ranting: I genuinely don't know why people at USCIS have to be so robotic and can't give any helpful suggestions... like an innocent mistake on my part could delay my case for weeks, and they couldn't care less, or even have enough compassion to stop the mistake from occurring if they could help it. (I had a previous call with USCIS asking for advice, and it wasn't very good either - though at least better than today's.)

Ok, now I'm just ranting here. But I'm still totally lost on whether it is useful to contact my service center to update the address or if I should just wait until NVC to correct the mistake then. I don't think that the address correction is needed until the consulate stage, so I don't want to hold up processing in the meanwhile. But I don't want any problems later either. :(

Can someone who has been through the process please just tell me whether there is a chance after the I-130 package (like at the NVC or consulate stage) to type in your spouse's address abroad? If no one is willing to answer my above posts, if you could simply give me this info it would help a LOT in assisting me decide what to do.

Please help! :help:

I haven't been through the complete process yet, but I discovered an address problem with my submitted I-130. Here's the advice I got: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/345799-how-to-make-a-correction-on-submitted-i-130/page__p__5088821__fromsearch__1#entry5088821

I also managed to speak to a very helpful CSR who told me to send in a written request with the correct address. I have since done that, and have not heard back...I don't think I was supposed to.

Your husband won't be receiving anything until the NVC stage anyway, so I wouldn't worry too much about missing out on communication.

At the NVC stage, use the Choice of Agent form to have all his communication forwarded to you, as indicated in the NVC guide.

The worst thing that will happen is getting an RFE at this stage, to which you could provide documents from your husband with the correct address.

Good Luck!

They won't use the I-130, they'll use the DS-230. As long as the DS-230 is filled out correctly and accurately, there should not be any issues.
