This depends on each country, some embassies allow the petitioner to be present and others don't. Check the country's portal and interview reviews for more information regarding this. Other members interviewed at Montreal might be able to give you a more educated answer.

You can also call the embassy directly and inquire.

2011/08/05:receive hard copy noa1 (priority date 2011/08/02

2011/09/14:my husband became usc. and sent citizenship certificate to upgrade the petition

2011/11/03:receive hard copy of noa2 ( case category from f2a to cr1)

2011/11/28:receive case number started with guz

2011/11/28:called to nvc to assign my case to montreal, canada

2011/12/28:got new case number started with mtl

2011/12/29：completed ds 261 apply electronic processing

2012/01/03：optin acceptance email received

Yes, petitioners are allowed to attend the interview in Montreal. On my day of the interview, I met up with another VJ member who was the petitioner joining her husband at the interview. She went into the little interview room and everything. So, yes, you're allowed to bring your SO, the petitioner, to the interview. Just make sure they bring their passport with them to the consulate as it's required to get in.
