Police Check.. can someone put my mind at ease?

So In Edmonton I went to the main headquarters police station. I tell them I need a police check, criminal record check blah blah. The lady notices that I selected " for visa for work/travel " She says are you moving there? I say yes. Then she says well you need an immigration one right? I said I'm not sure. It's for a VISA. I enter the states with a visa, I have 90 days to meet the requirements and then AOS. I'm not entering the states with status or as a spouse and the Visa application clearly states NONIMMIGRANT. So we pondered, she asked a few other people there and decided to put FOR VISA for TRAVEL. Basically, the information is exactly the same, just how it's titled at the top. Does anyone know if this is okay? Did anyone have the same thing happen? I just hope I didn't pay for it, take it there and find out I have to do it all over again. I am going insane trying to make sense of all this stuff. UGh..

TIA!!

From what I've read the most important thing about the police check is that somewhere on it it's annotated saying that CPIC or the National Database was checked.

I'm not sure the title really matters but hopefully someone with more experience will chime in.

As long as it says your name was searched in the national database or it's a CPIC check it's fine. By the way although a K1 is technically a nonimmigrant visa you still treat it as an immigrant visa in some cases. For example at POE you say you'll be immigrating, obviously. On my interview day in Montreal they instructed immigrant visa applicants only to get in the elevator but that included K1s as well. On any forms you fill out if it asks you what your intent is you say immigration, etc. etc.

There's lots of criminal record checks and every RCMP office does them differently for different prices. I've gotten them many times for work and volunteer purposes for my field.

But this one is for our K-1 visa is different from the typical criminal record check as it needs to be a national search - The criminal record check I got from my RCMP office says:

For Visa applicants, travel and foreign work permits (but this could be different form depending on the place)

But more importantly should say something like:

"this certifies that a search based on the above name and DOB failed to disclose any such person with a record of criminal convictions in the national repository from the criminal records of Canada."

That's the part they want or similar in wording. All fails and if you need to go back, bring your packet 3 checklist and show them.

Ty for the responses. Hopefully it's not a big deal. I showed her the checklist, and she said the wording of the search results are the same, it's just how it's titled so I guess it should be okay.

Thanks!

they aksed me if it was for immigration as it was a different price. also they knew i wasn't comming back to Canada. AS long as it specifically states the CPIC was checked, your fine.

I just got the police certificate done last week for my wife. This was in Ontario at the Peel region police headquarters. The form says CPIC search and you fill it out yourself. they just sign and seal at the bottom if no records were found. I wrote immigration for the purpose of the search. I hope all this was satisfactory.
