My wife and I wanted to get settled in the USA before we brought her son over. He was also mid term in school, so we did not want to withdraw him at the middle of the year.

What forms and paperwork do we need to file now to have him join us?

Start by looking at the Guides. Start with the I-130. The US citizen stepparent should be the petitioner.

If he was listed on you K1 petition and it has been less than a year since she arrived in the U.S. then you should just have to get his visa and the CFO Counseling.

It doesn't matter how long it's been since she arrived in the US. It matters how long it's been since her K1 visa was issued. A K2 derivative visa must be issued within a year of the date the K1 was issued. Unfortunately, his wife's K1 was issued in January of last year. It's too late to apply for a K2. He'll need to file an I-130.
