Well originally I forgot the check for the biometric fee, but I sent it back in a hurry, and received a receipt. The status on the I-485 was never updated after that, but I think they may have just transferred it to the local Chicago office right away. After calling USCIS, I had the impression that the local offices really don't update the status at all. I imagine forgetting the biometric fee right at the very beginning slowed the process down a little, but it couldn't have slowed it that much. I guess we will just keep waiting patiently, and when we're outside the Chicago office's processing window we will either call back or make an Infopass.

I know what you mean about the reliability of information from a Government agency. This whole time I have been imagining the different scenarios in which some government worker could have lost our application haha.

when i called uscis to let them know that at my biometric appt i had to use my maiden name not my married name on the notice the lady there said to call uscis and tell them to change the last name on my case from married to maiden so everything would match. when i called uscis said okay i made a note of the chance you will get a letter saying if uscis approved the change or not. needless to say i never got a letter but 2 weeks later i recieved my EAD with mymaiden name so i said okay they obviously aproved the change but then i got my interview notice with my married name  so now after the successful interview (with no questions asked about the name change) my gc arrived with my married name.. so yea uscis isnt all that reliable at least not the hotline number they tell u to call for questions.. everytime ive called they give me no helpful info oh wells i believe if u want reliable info then stick with the vj family bc we lived the case. best of luck to u

The status updates online are never updated except for the following: acceptance, card in production, card mailed, card picked up, card delivered, approval/denial, interview, RFE & RFE response.

If none of the above is happening, then there will be no online updates-- which always cracks me up when I think about, in no other circumstances would people sign up for "updates" when for months nothing ever "updates" and when it does update, you receive something in the mail anyway! Take a look at the I-130, that only ever receives two updates, acceptance & approved/denial which basically means that from the day they receive the I-130 until after your interview, it never "updates"--

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. I was hoping the "updates" would tell you if somebody is actually looking at it and what if anything they're doing with it. Essentially the only thing they are good for is letting you know if something got lost in the mail or not.

Thanks, I will certainly savor the moment.

It is a great feeling to finally be legal again and to know that my future dealings with the USCIS (ROC & Naturalization) will be much less daunting and relatively straight-forward.

I can now finally get on with my life as normal-- back to school in the fall and in-state tuition next year!

Thanks Nene!

Just a suggestion, Chris, why not update your profile from AOS (pending) to AOS (approved)? You have done it, now flaunt it!

Hello everyone!!! :)

I'm back!

Well... I can say this was a very interesting experience...

I got at the office about 30 minutes before my interview. Went trough security... and NO MOBILE PHONES WITH CAMERAS are allowed, so please check that before you go into the building.

We went to the second floor, all quiet... and put my appointment letter at the checking window which was closed and the curtains were down (Seemed like anyone was there!). We sat down... and really my hubby and me were smiling and stuff (my hands were very cold tough!). Then a woman came out... and said my name loud... We stood up and I LOOKED at her and said Hello and she said hello and smiled and asked us how we were? we said fine! and u! :)

She walked us to her office( there were like 8 other offices with another officers inside). She told us to remain standing and we did the oat LOOKING INTO HER EYES! We sat down... she asked for our ids and my passport, so i gave my state id and passport and she took my I94. Then she said: I will ask you some questions... so she asked questions from the FORMS we already submited, she asked my husband about what are my parents names, where do they live, where am i from, what is my complete name, and i had to give the same answers too... asked me if i ever met his parents, very simple and easy question.

She asked about how was my wedding, who went to my wedding, how many people, where was it... she was pretty happy that my family came to the wedding :)

Then she asked me if i had PICTURES AND DOCUMENTS TO SHOW: I gave her 2 albums: SHE SAW EACH PICTURE and because she seemed pretty nice i described her some of them :) Then i gave her some utility bills, banks account with our names. I was gonna handle more stuff to her but she said this is enough heheh :) ...

She asked me: what are ur plans now? i said of course i want all my papers to be all set and done so i can make my life with my hubby , find a job, make a business cause thats what i had in my home country, and she asked my hubby: u gonna help her right? and he said of course! and we laughed.

Then she said this is all... and ull have an answer between 2-3 weeks... and i asked her: can i check online too??? and she said of course during the next 48 hours....

So .. really.... it was a very easy experience.... FOR SURE she already study very well our case and saw that our marriage was genuine, she had a big thick file of our case. Also she gave me back my birth certificate that was an original with the translation (i found that quite nice of her), she said i made a copy so i can give it back to you....

Oh well!!! 30 min ago... i just check online and MY I 485 WENT TO CARD PRODUCTION!!! SO THAT MEANS IM APPROVED RIGHT????? BUT THE I 130 IS STILL IN INITIAL REVIEW... IS THAT NORMAL???

Just an advice: bring pictures (this office loved to see each one of my pics and i had like 300 pictures which she saw all.) and told us : you both have done a lot together! :)

So that is!

Any questions and comments are welcome!!!

ALE

There were just 2 couples already waiting.

And... with this i can tell you that not all interviews during afternoon hours mean that will be hard... mine was pretty easy. :)

Congratulations! Yes, your online status definitely points toward an approval. And the I-130 status is also pretty normal. Good for you. Your GC should be in hand within a week. Enjoy!
