And remember don't make late payments for you have a social and you will need to build your credit.... So whatever you open with social security number and you have payments every-month... I just stumbled across this forum. I'm a March filer. My wife has her EAD/AP card, but the online status for I-130 is "Initial Review" and online status for I-485 is still Acceptance????? #######? It seems like everybody else is getting approved or at least interviewed. I wonder why we haven't heard anything :( We have a trip planned to Europe from July 19 to August 3rd. I really hope the interview doesn't get scheduled for then.

Anybody have any advice?

5/2011 Met my wife, she was on a J1

2/25/2012 Married

3/07/2012 Sent I-130,I-485,I-765,I-131 to Chicago lockbox

3/16/12 NOA1 received along with notice that Biometric fee was missing

3/25/12 received receipt that biometric fee had been accepted

Still waiting for update on I-130/I-485

Please fill in your timeline so we have an idea of your filing date and can give you some inputs. I would not worry too much about the online stauts, USCIS has been known to a be a little slow on this front and is not very reliable.

If you have the EAD/AP, you are on track, there are at least five other March filers who are waiting for interview dates just like you.

As for the Europe trip, if I were you, I would reschedule because

1) you never know when the interview is likely going to happen

2) you can never predict the outcome of the interview with any certainty nor can you actually be sure there will be an approval

3) If you are approved, you may have to surrender your EAD/AP card during the interview and cannot really travel unless you have the GC in hand, which takes anywhere between 2 to 3 weeks after interview approval.

Hope this helps. All the best on this journey!

Sorry I didn't really know how to include the timeline here until now. I thought it should be automatically linked. I didn't realize you had to put it in your signature.

How far in advance do they schedule the interview? I'm pretty nervous now. My wife hasn't seen her family in over 2 years, and she is pretty homesick. We wanted to go in the summer because one of her sisters ends her maternity leave in August and her other sister is pregnant. Also the summer is really the only time she can get 2 weeks off from work.

If we got a notice for the interview and it was during those 2 weeks we were to be gone, I would obviously try to reschedule our trip. I bought the tickets already, and they're non-refundable unfortunately. I don't want to reschedule anything now given the uncertainty of when the interview could happen etc.

I guess I should have consulted Visa Journey a little more before making travel plans, but we were so excited to get the AP that we didn't really think twice about it.

You first get an email notification, then the hard copy a few days later in the mail. From the date of notification, you would have roughly about 30-40 days (and I am giving a very wide margin here, usually it is about 30-35 days).

If your tickets are non-refundable, you may want to just reschedule, most airlines do this for a fee. Rescheduling the interview itself isn't advisable, since it only pushes the process away further. You should be getting your interview notification very soon, seeing that you filed in early March.

I would suggest you rethink your travel plans until you have the GC in hand. There are many VJ members who have done so in situations like yours. There are also instances where members have been stuck in countries abroad during the process and have had to go through a long and arduous process to get back on track.

Not a very advisable thing to do,unless you have a family emergency.

Don't worry sometime next week you'll hear from Uscis

Most likely. We were supposed to be traveling for 13 days, so naturally USCIS would wait to schedule the interview during those 13 days haha.

Question!

In what kind of bag did u guys put all the stuff to take to the inteview? i have kinda a bit of stuff to carry :)

And also... with what kind of clothes should i wear for the interview!

I didn't bring a bag, just one manila folder. I don't really think that it matters as it goes through an airport style screening anyway, so just put it in whatever is comfortable.

As for the clothes, I just wore jeans, shirt and a sweater-- however what people wore ranged from jeans, t-shirts & sneakers, all the way up to suits and everything in between.
