Congrats on EAD!

I had a SS card as a student, but it was conditional, only with DHS approval. Now, it will be unconditional, since I got EAD.

Your new SSN will still have the "Valid for work only with DHS authorization" since as of this moment you still need authorization from the DHS to work, and that authorization is your EAD.

Only when you get your GC do you no longer need authorization from the DHS to work.

Hi. I have a question. Our interview is 2 weeks from today. The marriage cert that we submitted when we file had a wrong name for my spouse's father's first name. We filed a correction and luckily got the certified corrected one recently. Should I mail the corrected marriage cert or just wait till my interview and hand it over to the IO?

Thanks a lot! Appreciate it!

Wait until your interview.

Good luck Mike in your interview today--- I look forward to reading another successful interview experience

My wife thinks I'm over-reacting but the IO was a complete dbag. Undermined all the evidence I presented. Raised a stink about online dating, online communications,or any conversations that were not vis a vis, talked down on me, my wife etc. I was in there for 2 hours! We were not separated either. So I do not know. Maybe if I get in the mood (after an actual decision) I may expound on it. Still seething mad. Here's some quick advice. Make sure any photos you have, have family of either side in them. Pre-marital counseling is good if you're in the Bible belt. Work on affidavits especially from your spouse's closest relatives. If they are clergy or you know any, even better. If you are an inter-racial couple, expect more probing about your commonalities or differences. It will be subtle but glaring. They will not mention race at all. How long you dated before marrying, get all your dates straight (know roughly when all the major events occurred to the month - basically, get your timeline right. Most importantly, if you have lived apart or do not have a common residence at the time of interview, make sure the other bonafides are solid. Get life/health insurance and a bank account (not optional.) Just in case you filed when you were under removal (I wasn't) I can not even imagine what you would go through if you got an IO like mine. The ONLY thing he liked was my I-864 (ironically, the only thing I was RFE'd for.) I just have the feeling this will be a denial. He was very hard on me about not having our own apt (note, I haven't been working for 1 month yet and my wife is unemployed.) He raised a big stink about that. I would also advise anyone NOT to rely strongly on e-chats, emails, web-chats, skype, whatever, anything electronic (signed, endorsed etc) if your IO is an older person. Just put that evidence at the bottom of the pile and don't use it. It will work against you. If you graduated, and then became out of status, do not take the school transcript with you. I do not want any of you guys to go through what I went through. Practice and rehearse responses to these questions. "What attracted him/her to you? What do you have in common?" If you have any weaknesses in your presented evidence, that is what will be focussed on so have good answers and expect to be grilled on them. This #### grilled me for about 10 minutes about bad grades I had during ONE semester over 10 years ago! Gotta go to work. Later.

Gotta run to work.

My heart goes out to you, this is so painful. However, as long as there was no outright denial, I would still remain optimistic. Thanks for all the tips! Here's hoping all turns out well for you in the end. Chin up!

be optimistic Mike, some of the officers they like to put you on the grill before they approve you. My good friend had his interview in Dallas TX, and he was interviewed for 3 hours, first hour they were not separated , but after that the officer asked them that he is gonna interview each one alone, so he interviewed each one of them an hour. and guess what he got the approval the second day. I know sometimes you find interviews are so smooth, but sometimes they are harsh especially if you are not from a developed country . I think you will get approved , and in the worst case scenario , they will ask you to have a second interview

So sorry to Mike for how rough it was on you.

Some of what you have said took place is exactly what I have claimed from the start - in fact in one thread I had someone debating that I was wrong but your interview is obviously proof of it. Electronic communications are not evidence of a bonafide marriage, they are just too circumstantial and can be falsified way to easily. I don't believe any IO will be interested in those, young or not,

The bank stuff and insurance stuff that is absolutely what you need. Those are evidences that are backed up by a third party. Same as the pictures - they want them with other people, even if it isn't family because again it involves a third party that can substantiate the reality of your marriage.

And, my goodness, especially if you aren't living together at the time o fthe interview you better be sure your other stuff is in order - that is absolutely a huge red flag!

Also, regardless of anything else you always need to have the dates of your major events memorized.

I think a lot of the other stuff you got heckled about, like your grades, was likely just because you had ticked him off by not having everything together.

Terribly sorry for you but I would not count yourself out yet. Many hard interviews like this one turn into an approval - they may just make you sat it a little. Otherwise they may give you an RFE for some real bonafide evidence, a second interview or even drop by your place of residence. Be prepared and stay positive.

Since you have few pics, be sure to have other SOLID evidence, like your insurance/bills/bank/lease accounts together. That is major.
