I do find it strange that they asked you for ID since your EAD proves both your identity, legal presence & permission to work which is all you need to obtain a SSN. Just goes to show different SSA Offices do things a little different.

I also brought my passport, my I-94 and my hardcopy NOAs but the lady at the counter wasn't interested in any other document but my EAD and in fact didn't even talk to me except to ask 3 or 4 yes/no questions.

They asked for my ID as well. I think there is a little lack of understanding in regards to what the EAD is.

I got frustrated that i couldn't get my local fishing license before getting my state ID. I was like, really? I have my EAD and letters from Homeland security showing where I live...and thats not enough proof for you? :bonk:

July 2005 - met my awesome, hot, amazing love in Lousiana.
July 2006 - Married said love and moved to Canada.
June 2011 - Entered US to visit family, decided to stay.
Feb. 2012 - Sent paperwork to Chicago.

May 2012 - Received green card.

Well we needed two different documents so passport was one and then the EAD

Day 0: 03/06/12 Mailed Package

3/28/2012 (Day 6) - One check for $1,490 cashed & cleared for I-130 and I-485.

4/02/2012 (Day 11) - NOA hard copies received (x3), case status available online & bio appt. also received, dated 04/12 @ 8:00 AM.

4/10/2012 (Day 19) - Case status online says changed to RFE received.

4/12/2012 (Day 21) - Successful biometric done.

5/11/2012 (Day 50) - Complete RFE (I-864) received. Case status online changed to RFE received.

5/16/2012 (Day 55) - Online case status says: Card/ Document Production.

5/21/2012 (Day 60) - Online case status says: Card picked up by USPS.

5/24/2012 (Day 63) - EAD card in hand.

6/12/2012 (Day 82) - Testing and Interview.

I have my interview on May 29th. Does anyone know of a comprehensive list of things that we should bring for AOS? The I-797 just has a really general list of items that I'm not sure apply to everyone.

For example, if we've already submitted the I-864, and we don't have any sponsors other than ourselves, will we still need letters from our employers and pay stubs? etc...

4/23/12 (day 52) received interview notice by mail for 5/29

4/30/12 (day 59) card production ordered

Arrived on F1 visa on 25 Dec 2008. Graduated June 2011. Started OPT Sep 2011.

AOS applied March 21, 2012. GC approved June 11, 2012 & received June 18, 2012.

Exactly three months from start to finish,no RFEs.

Day 01,March 21, 2012: Concurrent filing of I-130/AOS/EAD/AP to Chicago Lockbox

Day 02,March 22, 2012: Package delivered to Chicago Lockbox

Day 04,March 24, 2012: USCIS Acceptance Confirmation received through e-mail

Day 07,March 27, 2012: Checks cashed.

Day 13,April 02, 2012 : NOAs received for I-130,I-485,EAD/AP & Biometrics

Day 36,April 25, 2012 : Biometrics Completed at Elizabeth, NJ.

Day 45,May 04, 2012 : E-mail notification for interview received for June 11

Day 46,May 05, 2012 : Received hard copy of interview notice

Day 56,May 16, 2012 : EAD/AP Production e-mail

Day 64,May 24, 2012 : EAD/AP Card in hand

Day 83,June 11,2012 : Interview. Approved same day. Card production email.

omg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! we finally got the EAD approval text messages. I am about to faint...... god is good.

On May 21, 2012, we ordered production of your new card. Please allow 30 days for your card to be mailed to you. If we need something from you we will contact you. If you move before you receive the card, call customer service at 1-800-375-5283.

This step applies to applications that result in an applicant receiving a card (such as a "green card") or other document (such as a naturalization certificate, employment authorization document, travel document, or advance parole). Applications will be in this step from the time the order to produce the card/document is given until the card/document is produced and mailed to the applicant. You can expect to receive your card/document within 30 days of the approval of your application.
