My EAD arrived this afternoon, just in time for my interview on Tuesday!

It is only valid for a year though so I hope that the DMV doesn't give me a DL that is only valid for 12 months also.

Anyway, next stop-- Social Security Office for a SSN on Monday and then the DMV, hopefully afterwards.

They most likely will give you one valid for only a year. It's the reason I just got a state ID for now. Mine even has the word "TEMPORARY" scrawled diagonally across the card. It sucks. :) Congrats on the EAD Chris. Looks like your case and mine are pretty much mirrors. ;) We even got the same RFE...LOL. :P

It will most likely be only for a year, but once you get the GC, you can almost immediately extend the validity by paying a $8 renewal fee (at least, that's how it works in NJ, where I live). Congratulations on the EAD!!

Hi All, I've been following another march aos didn't know you guys were here. My timeline is available but not as a signature.

Your EAD is only to keep you going till you get your GC, after that it's defunct. You wont need to renew it, in fact if memory serves me correctly they may even ask you for it at interview. I'm in Fl, got my drivers licence for 1yr in my maiden name, they wouldn't let me have it in my married name until I got my EAD and or GC.

I'm 10 weeks between mailing package and interview date, no EAD, if the notification email comes this week I'd be happy otherwise I'll forget about it, I only have 3 and a half weeks till interview.

Well, I'll just take my seat with you all and wait alongside you, the other forum were people adjusting from K1, they are having the same waits as we are and are not adjusting any quicker, the only difference is that some of them don't do interviews because of the amount of stuff they went through with K!.

03/05/12 (Day 01) Sent package

03/08/12 (Day 03) Package received

03/16/12 (Day 11) Bio Appt recieved

FYI to those who don't know: It's important to take marriage certificate and any other proof of name change to DMV, biometrics, or anywhere else you're hoping to use your married name.

12/24/2010 I proposed. She accepted and stayed.

02/25/2011 Married!

03/19/2012 FINALLY submitted the AOS paperwork: I-130, I-485, I-765, etc.

03/23/2012 Received notification that USCIS has received everything.

03/26/2012 Biometrics Appointment Notice: April 23, 2012.

04/02/2012 NOA's received. Now we wait...

04/23/2012 Biometrics completed.

05/18/2012 EAD card mailed but not yet received.

06/06/2012 Rough interview but we think we're approved! Website says i485 status "Card Production".

06/12/2012 We received the "Welcome the United States" letters! Website says Green Card was mailed.

LIMBO: Green card lost in mail. Facing the possibility of paying hundreds in fees and basically repeating the entire process.

All good now! USPS lost it, then found it.

04/24/14 Back to VJ to get help with I-751, Removal of Conditions.

05/31/14 Mailed I-751 finally, with less than a week to deadline!

06/02/14 NOA1 (that was fast!)

07/01/14 Biometrics

7/25/14 Approved for Removal of Conditions

Hey guys, first time writing here.....found tremendous amount of useful information here. I filed on March 13th and had my biometrics scheduled for 5/11 but I went today to the ASC in Raleigh and they were super nice and took my biometrics early. I-130 was approved long time ago, now we just wait for our interview notice....cheers!

I figured that they would only give me one valid for the 12 months of the EAD. I went to the Social Office today and applied for a SNN, the receipt says that the card should arrive in about two weeks but they didn't give me my actual SSN so I guess the trip to the DMV will just have to wait anyway and so will any employers asking for one.

Our case are pretty much identical-- just awaiting on the email confirmation for the interview, hopefully that won't take much longer.

It will most likely be only for a year, but once you get the GC, you can almost immediately extend the validity by paying a $8 renewal fee (at least, that's how it works in NJ, where I live). Congratulations on the EAD!!

It works the same way in Colorado also except that our renewals are the same cost of a new DL which is $21. However since I have to wait two weeks for my SSN anyway, I may just wait and see how close my GC interview is at that time and if they are separated only by a couple of weeks, then I will likely just hold off obtaining a DL. However, if I haven't received an interview date or the date is quite far out then I will just go ahead at get one for 12months and suck up the additional $21 at a later date.

It's the same thing here too. I think the best thing is to just wait to get the EAD if not close to your GC interview or rather wait for the GC to come.

It truly depends on the state and at times some local DMV don't want to waive where they can. If your legal entry as expired it won't be acceptable. The other option is for them to log-into the shared database with USCIS where they will confirm if your status is truly showing that it's pending but if this database is not updated they won't do anything to process your DL. They will then ask for physical evidence which is EAD or GC.
