Honestly, there is nothing that an immigration attorney can do at this point-- it doesn't matter if it was a 10 year or 2 year GC -- he is now a permanent resident of the United States and he will remain one until such a time when an Immigration Judge rules otherwise and unfortunately, divorce does not terminate residency and one cannot withdraw a petition that has already been adjudicated.

I am sorry to hear about your situation but you must understand that these laws are in place to protect the immigrant so that the spouse cannot hold their immigration status over their head as a form of blackmail-- do this, pay me this or lose your GC etc and since you have been married for over 2 years, the "good faith" of the conditional GC has already been met.

It is kind of difficult to prove that a marriage was not entered into in good faith when it has past a certain length of time.

FWIW, I am having issues of my own (maybe this March group is a little tainted haha), so the above is not said in a hurtful tone.

OMG... what's with the mass divorce stuff? Why would someone pretend to be in a real relationship and then leave?

It's hard work and a lot of time and effort to put into something like that

Finally Done, I agree with Chris, once a person has a 10-year GC, there is little to nothing that can be done. Withdrawing petition at this point does not change anything. Did you see any signs at all earlier that things may not be what they seem to be? I remember you saying you made all sincere efforts to get documentation from Colombia,I am so sorry you are having to go through this.

An immigration attorney at this point of time will only be a waste of money, since you may not be able to prove that you were being scammed for all these months and was not aware of it, just my two cents.

George, you may want to seek legal help, am sure there are laws that are meant to protect new immigrants in such situations. If you can prove that your wife demanded money to keep the marriage going, that may help a lot.

Am not too sure of the legal stuff, but lots of immigration attorneys offer free first consultations. All the best!

Now, if there is abuse involved, that is a whole different story. LPRs who are convicted of domestic abuse face certain deportation.

Even if you are not able to withdraw the support petition, if you can prove domestic abuse, you can see this through. Keep us posted on how the attorney stuff goes. But more importantly, stay strong and protect yourself, whatever it takes.

Yes I have proof of emails she just sent asking for money !!! I have an info pass appointment on Tuesday .. I'm so heart broken.. I really loved her, life is a bit*h I can't even sleep at nights worrying if I'm 2 years I'll get deport and loosing her .. It's too much plus im stuck at paying the lease of our apartment of 2200 a month all by my self ;-(((
